Pittsburgh Street Doctor Cares for Homeless People Where They Live

Dr. Jim Withers, one of the pioneers of street medicine, treats homeless people on the streets of Pittsburgh in this heartwarming video by NationSwell. Withers started practicing street medicine in 1992, when he partnered with outreach worker and former homeless person Mike Sallows to bring medical care directly to Pittsburgh’s homeless population. Withers went on to create Operation Safety Net, one of first full-time street medicine programs in the U.S. To aid the cause of street medicine, you can donate to the Street Medicine Institute.
