Newsbeat is a new app from Tribune Digital Ventures that reads stories from newspapers and blogs aloud while you’re on the go. The iOS / Android app turns written media into news radio, utilizing a combination of human readers and machine voices to narrate a stream of stories you customize based on publication, topic or category. It will tailor things like traffic and weather, and the app can further configure your stream based on what you’re listening to and skipping. Newsbeat is currently available as a free, ad-supported download from Google Play and Apple’s App Store, serving up an advertisement every ten minutes or so as you listen to the stream.
