New Microsoft Holoportation Technology Lets Users Interact in Real Time 3D Virtual Reality

Microsoft has introduce what they are calling “Holoportation,” a technology that allows users to interact with one another in real time 3D virtual reality from anywhere. Multi-camera setups in two locations render and compress lifelike 3D models of the subjects before sending that data to be displayed on the Hololens of the other user.

The images can even be recorded and played back later, which Microsoft Interactive 3D Technologies team leader Shahram Izadi compares to “reversing through time.”
