Nautilus

Ryan Lytle, an art student in Virginia, used bottle caps, wire, keys, a lens from a gas mask and a variety of other recycled materials to create Nautilus, a 3-dimensional cephalopod piece of art.

I have a thing for metal. Wire is my favorite material to work with because it can always change, it’s never permanent. I really love the texture of it. The process of creating a wire sculpture is fun for me as well. The wrapping and weaving style is cathartic in a sense. In general, I like wire because the material itself changes over time, the metal turns darker, the texture develops, and so on. It reminds me of the progression of life.
