Mark One, A 3D Printer That Can Print Ridiculously Strong Parts Using Continuous Carbon Fiber

The Mark One is the first 3D printer from Massachusetts-based MarkForged, a company founded by former aerospace engineer Greg Mark, but it’s a major step forward: The Mark One can print continuous carbon fiber. As the company points out on their website, continuous carbon fiber has a high strength-to-weight ratio — much higher than the traditional plastics used by the majority of 3D printers — and is what things like rockets are made from.

The Mark One is currently available for pre-order, and will ship in the second half of 2014.
