Los Angeles Cacophony Society GI Joe Convention Prank

by Scott Beale on November 27, 2006 · 11 comments

In 1992 the Los Angeles Cacophony Society organized one of their most infamous pranks of all time, the “GI Joe Atrocity Exhibit”. They infiltrated a GI Joe Convention at a Ramada Inn in Burbank with a gruesome display that they built of GI Joe soldiers in actual combat. The convention organizer was not at all pleased with LA Cacophony’s “gift”. Check out the hilarious video.

I wonder what that GI Joe organizer dude is doing these days. Someone should track him down and do a little follow up gift exchange.

Wow, judging from the comments audible on the clip, most of the Cacophony folks seemed unaware that they were getting off on the vicarious violence and mayhem emboidied by GI Joe as much as any of the fans at the convention. Are all CS pranks this self-righteously oblivious?

I wouldn’t call it oblivious. We were aware of and positively relished the “vicarious violence and mayhem” of our little make-believe world.

I think it’s hilarious that ‘ooze’ analyzes the ‘vicarious violence’ while completely ignoring the actual violence perpetrated by the organizer!

Appropriate name, though!

:o)
