Legislative Explorer, An Interactive Visualization Exploring the Patterns of Lawmaking in the United States Congress

Legislative Explorer

Legislative Explorer is an interactive visualization from researchers at the University of Washington’s Center for American Politics and Public Policy of the patterns of lawmaking in the United States Congress. The visualization allows users to track bills and resolutions from individuals in the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives from start to finish of a two-year Congress.

The incredibly detailed visualization — every dot represents a bill — includes data reaching back all the way to 1973. Once a specific Congress is selected, pressing play moves the dots around from their respective committees as time goes on. When a bill moves to another committee, becomes a law, or moves to any other different stage, the dot moves. The visualization also includes several layers of filters.
