Inside the Whale Warehouse, A Collection of Oversize Animal Specimens in Los Angeles

“The Whale Warehouse” is a behind-the-scenes look at the Marine Mammal Laboratory, a Los Angeles warehouse of oversize animal specimens from the collection of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, known to museum employees as the “Whale Warehouse.” The video is the first in the AudioVision series by Southern California Public Radio.

The public only gets to see a carefully curated version of the collections at The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Hidden from view, there’s a second museum, much more sprawling in scope, full of character and occasionally gross. No place is more hidden than the so-called Whale Warehouse.
