The next time a coworker or great aunt sends you a photo of sharks swimming in flooded city streets, buildings, etc., shark expert David Shiffman of Southern Fried Science provides five easy steps to determine whether the image is fake. One helpful tip is to search for the image using Google’s Search by Image function. But tip #5 is the most helpful of all: “Just assume that the picture is a fake.”
