How a Stenotype Machine Works

Stenographer Jean Rohrer explains how a stenotype machine works. Stenotypes features a special keyboard with just a fraction of the keys found in a typical QWERTY keyboard. Words are spelled phonetically and syllables can be typed with a single key or group of keys, allowing very high typing speeds (200 words per minute or more).
