Google Fiber, Ultra High Speed Residential Internet Service

Yesterday Google announced Google Fiber, an ultra high speed Internet service that will soon be providing Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri with gigabit (1,000Mb/sec) connections (intro video). Service options will include gigabit Internet, internet and Google Fiber TV, and free Internet at a slower connection speed. Starting in the fall the service will be rolled out by neighborhood, with areas that have the highest number of pre-registered users being connected first. Until then, the public can preview the service at the Fiber Space in Kansas City, Missouri.

Google Fiber is 100 times faster than today’s average broadband. No more buffering. No more loading. No more waiting. Gigabit speeds will get rid of these pesky, archaic problems and open up new opportunities for the web. Imagine: instantaneous sharing; truly global education; medical appointments with 3D imaging; even new industries that we haven’t even dreamed of, powered by a gig.
