‘Garden’, An Immersive Kaleidoscopic Installation Inside of a Shipping Container

Kaleidoscopic Installation in a Shipping Container

Designers Masakazu Shirane and Saya Miyazaki created “Garden”, an immersive kaleidoscopic installation inside a shipping container, for the Art Container Contest at the 2013 Kobe Biennial. Visitors to the installation could walk inside the kaleidoscope and experience the confusing sensation of being surrounded by mirrored surfaces. The designers used a novel construction technique, in which zippers were used as fasteners, to connect the surfaces together. “Garden” won an award at the Kobe Biennial and more recently, a CS Design award.
