On Tuesday a four-year-old boy in Bakersfield, California was rescued from a dog attack by his family’s cat in an astonishing bit of feline bravery that was caught on surveillance video. The boy, Jeremy, was playing in his driveway when a neighbor’s dog ambushed him from behind. Seconds after the attack began, the family cat (a female tabby named Tara) burst on to the scene, body checked the dog, and then chased him away. Jeremy’s mother Erika Triantafilo—who also responded to the attack—reports that her son required stitches but was not seriously hurt.
