The Flying Robot International Film Festival (FRIFF), the world’s first open international competition dedicated to video shot by drones, is currently putting out a call for entries of “creative short form cinema” taken from a drone’s perspective. Videos submitted by September 15th will be judged and the winners will be screened during the event in November 2015. The festival is the brainchild of Eddie Codel, an extremely talented videographer and good friend of Laughing Squid who wanted to highlight the best of the growing art of drone video.
I had the idea for a drone film festival after witnessing the rise of so much epic aerial filmmaking over the past few years. Now that consumer camera drones are readily available and fairly inexpensive, we’re seeing a huge uptick in aerial cinema on YouTube and Vimeo. I want to highlight the best stuff out there and really encourage filmmakers to take it to the next level. …The Flying Robot international Film Festival is an open competitive film festival focused on aerial cinema created from the perspective of flying cameras, also commonly known as drones. Festival participation is open to anyone around the globe. Entry fees are low. Prizes worth thousands of dollars will be awarded to winning selections. Deadline for submissions is September 15, 2015.
