Fallen Straw Mammoth Sculpture at 2010 Setouchi Triennale in Japan

Fallen straw mammoth at Setouchi 2010

Back in September 2010, Musashino Art University students created this wonderful straw mammoth sculpture as part of the Setouchi Triennale art festival in Japan. One month after the outdoor sculpture was built, a typhoon rather artfully knocked it over, creating a beautiful reinterpretation of the original work. The sculpture and its dramatic fall were photographed by Hong Kong artist Michelle Kuen Suet Fung. The spring season of the 2013 Setouchi Triennale is going on now, through April 21. Summer and fall festival seasons will follow later in the year.
