100 million species are on the planet, try and fit two of each in that boat. And the take into account we loose approximately 500 species to extinction every year for the past 5,000 years. That is over 2,500,000 more to fit on the same boat.

102,500,000 x 2= 205,000,000 animals to also try and feed for awhile.
In an area less than the length of a football field.

First to understand how Noah built the ark you have to understand that God the creator of the universe had a hand in it. The animals where brought by God to him and the ark, He created them lol . im sure he could tell them where to gather. But to understand any of that you have to except the fact we are created and there is a Heavenly Father who has power ver all. and that one day before him all knees shall bow and tongues confess that Christ is Lord. believer or not and i pray you find salvation timmmii honestly. Hell is a terrible place and God doesnt want to see you go there. i thinkn its tight that somebody felt that they should make a replica half size. God bless

John Doe (what a clever name, maybe I'm talking to a corpse), you'll notice that that date on that information is March 17th, which after this post come out. My guess is that will all the new attention, they decided to make the information about the project easier to find. I went ahead an updated Chicken's post.

Not to be an elitist douche but it says right on the website that the thing is not full scale. Actually more specifically it says it is a 1/2 scale replica. Whether or not you believe it to be true, it's still an engineering feat. Not to mention the fact that archaeologists found the remains of the ark in the ararat mountains in iran in 2006 and satellite photographs have confirmed it's size. On top of all of that the ark was about the size of a small aircraft carrier... if metal aircraft carriers can float, i think a wooden one could. Plus the thing wasnt exactly designed to travel the world as much as just float and keep people and animals alive right?

Well, cool or not, I am one of those "creationist fanatics" (not that fanatic is synonymous with creationist), and I think it may be pretty amazing to tour the thing. The original described in Genesis was the size of 522 train-cars, so this one must be massive as well even at half the size. After reading the story so many times a visit probably would make it that much more real.

It would have been great to figure out a marketing campaign for this ark too. I would have loved to work on the design end of it. I can't imagine Noah was that great of an ad guy since only 8 people made it onto the ark. Heh.

The ship is build on a flat barge. So it does float but not by it self. Judging from the picture even he could not escape the many dutch safety regulations: emergengy exit sign (which is kind of funnny if you thing about it), firehose and obligatory signs.

And if there is a flood the Netherlands will surely be the first in need of an arc :)

If this guy believes in literal truth of the bible, then i have a few questions:
If Johan Huibers has to weld 25 barges together to make said Ark, how did Noah build this ark way back when?
How did Noah keep two of every animal on this ship? And who corralled all these animals? Where were they kept? How were they fed for 40 days and 40 nights?

just trying to be literal

That thing, like the "real ark" and the purported 150+ yard wooden Chinese Treasure ships can't float for long due to hogging and sagging.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogging_and_sagging

That thing in the water would be a maintenance nightmare, even if it could get a seaworthiness certificate.

Maybe *that's* why the Dutch bumped off the Dominican in the Baseball Classic. They were on a Mission from Gad.
