Creating a Laptop Self-Destruct Button Using Gun Powder, Magnesium, and Thermite

Caleb Kraft of Hack A Day has created a self-destruct mechanism for laptops using a complicated — and dangerous — ignition system made of model rocket igniters, gun powder, magnesium, and thermite.

I really wanted to try my hand at a james bond style project. It isn’t the most practical and it is extremely un safe.

What I built was a self destruction system for hard drives. Using a custom ignition system and internal packets of thermite, you could melt your hard drive with the push of a button. You could be using the computer just like normal and, seeing a spy kick in your door, simply hit the self destruct button and jump up for your super cool fight scene. Your laptop will take care of the rest. It will probably also burn down the building.
