Clever Birds Figure Out How to Use an Automatic Door in a Bike Parking Garage

Photographer Grant Hughes documented swallows operating an automatic door in a bike parking garage at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. According to Hughes, the swallows were already nesting in the garage when the door was added to the entrance. The birds are able to activate the motion sensors for the door from both the inside and outside, which allows them to pass in and out of the garage with ease.
