China’s National Defense University Unveils AnBot, An Intelligent Autonomous Security Robot

AnBot and Operator

China’s National Defense University unveiled the AnBot, an intelligent autonomous security robot, at the 12th Chongqing Hi-Tech Fair. The robot, which resembles a Dalek from Doctor Who, can navigate on its own with a top speed of 18 kilometers per hour but maintains a patrol speed of one kilometer per hour. The robot’s battery will last for eight hours of continuous operation, and it is capable of recharging itself on its own.

AnBot is equipped with audio and video monitoring capabilities, and bystanders can use the robot to contact police in the event of an emergency using a touchscreen button.

Besides monitoring operations, the AnBot is also capable of riot control. An article in The People’s Daily describes the robot as having an, “electrically charged riot control tool” that can be deployed remotely by the AnBot’s human controllers. Although that feature was not demonstrated at the event.
