Chicken Car

thought I would take the time to tell you that, that is a rooster not a chicken…. There is a difference. lol

I am the one responsible for bringing this car to California. Back in 1997 I was hired by its owner Steve Cantin, who runs the pet expos and extrvaganzas here in Columbus, Ohio, to drive it to California to be in a “movie” that was never made. The story of its journey is much too long to post here, but exciting none the less. I left in January of 1997, I had to replace its heater core so I could stay warm until I reached the warmer states. I took my girlfriend at the time and my mom along for the ride. We had a blast! Back then the car was in a lot better shape than what I see in these photos. There were no dents and only surface rust on the rear bumper. The interior was in fair shape with only a small tear in the drivers seat. If it still has the CB, it was purchased by me and installed in a Wal-mart parking lot in Texas. Purpose being for direction aid by truckers and also to hear the hilarious remarks made by them such as “I just got passed by a chicken!” It seemed to use more oil than it did gas. Every time I stopped for a fill up I had to put 1-2 quarts in.
Once I reached my destination, which ironicly was Santa Monica, the people I was to meet with did not show. I returned to Barstow for a hotel, finally got in contact with them and was to meet them at LAX the next day or so. I waited 3 days for them to come, and held the chicken for ransom until I was paid my dues.
I'm glad to see that its still alive and “cluckin”! This car and I have a bond, I won't ever forget it! It is now owned by Tommy Kendall, commentator, racer, and he drives it for liesure and laughs. Unfortunately he sees it as tacky and refuses to fix its appearance. Steve Cantin takes the credit for design and build. I hope one day someone will recondition it.
