Spock Is Not Impressed, a new Tumblr blog featuring a very unimpressed Spock Photoshopped into various photos.

Here’s a Spock template that you can use to add Spock to photos which can then be submitted to the blog.

Clever t-shirt illustrator Glenn Jones, formerly a designer for Threadless, now runs his own t-shirt company GlennzTees. He recently began documenting his creative drawing process in short time-lapse videos and posting them on Vimeo.

I use the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator and draw with a Wacom tablet. If needed, I draw a quick rough on screen first, then convert that to guides to draw my final illustration on top of that.

Much like the community-based model of Threadless, Jones allows the public to vote his tee design concepts into production.

This enormously clever animation by Dulcidio Caldeira uses 600 balloons popping in sequence along a 200 meter rail to achieve an effect similar to a flip book. The animation is a commercial for MTV Brazil by Brazilian creative agency ParanoidBR.

With the tuition fees shooting through the roof at UC and State schools, wouldn’t it be nice if there were some way to get a free education? The new Free University of San Francisco aims to do just that, offering classes on all sorts of subjects that will be absolutely free. No charge. Gratis. On the house.

The classes are held at Virachocha, 998 Valencia at 21st, and the historic first teach-in is this Saturday! Matt Gonzalez will teach “Fundamentals of Law,” Alan Kaufman will lecture on “Jack Kerouac, Thelonious Monk and Jackson Pollock,” and Diane Di Prima will speak on “Vision and the Visionary Poet.” And that’s just the beginning! The whole day is packed full of fascinating people talking about fascinating stuff.

On May 21st, Tara Evans turned 40 years old. Instead of having a large birthday party, she decided to turn the party into a benefit for the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland… and she has invited the world!

The Creative Growth Art Center has served adult artists with developmental, mental and physical disabilities, providing a stimulating environment for artistic instruction, gallery promotion and personal expression for over 35 years.

Artwork fostered in this unique environment is included in prominent collections and museums worldwide. In June 2008, the Creative Growth Center opened Galerie Impaire in Paris exhibiting the artwork of artists with disabilities, self-taught artists and contemporary artists from around the world.

Their artists have been featured in documentaries, books, and have recently worked on designing for Marc Jacobs.

One of the more well-known artists to come out of Creative Growth Art Center was Judith Scott. “Mistakenly branded in childhood as profoundly retarded, Judith was to spend thirty-five dismal years in institutional custody before the love of her twin sister intervened too obtain her release, setting her on that mythic journey from darkness into light, which would win for her international acclaim as an artist of exceptional talent and originality.”

Tara is holding an Art Sale and Dessert Fest Benefit at Rhythmix Cultural Works 2513 Blanding Avenue in Alameda this Saturday, May 29th, from 7:00pm-10:00pm. There is a $10 donation at the door which includes a raffle ticket. Raffle prizes include gift certificates for the Westin St. Francis Union Square, Andiron Seaside Inn and Cabins near Mendocino, Salsa with Juan, and Bead Inspirations.

The entire event has been a collaborative effort. Over 40 artists from across the US, as far as Ithaca NY, and notables such as Winston Smith have donated paintings, drawings, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, music, independent film tickets, soaps and scents, and various other forms of arts and crafts for the Art Sale. The sale will also include 20 pieces from Creative Growth artists.

Siri, a new personal assistant app for the iPhone. Looks pretty impressive.

What makes Siri unique is that it understands natural language, accomplishes tasks and adapts to user’s individual preferences over time. Siri leverages many services and technologies to accomplish the task requested.

Eric Butler has created FoursquareX, a really nice desktop app for Foursquare that runs on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Along with being a beautifully designed, full-featured iPhone flashlight app, Safety Light by The Iconfactory also includes a SOS signal option for emergency rescue.

Reko Rivera and John Savio have created the world’s first “working” iPhone costume.

This all started two years ago Reko Rivera and Bobby Hartman created a wearable large iPhone costume with a real 37″ lcd tv. An iPod was attached with a looping video of a real iphones screen in normal use. This time with the help of John Savio and John Matthews the team created yet another amazing rendition of the new iPhone 3GS. Savio loved the original idea but wanted to take it to the next level and make it thinner and actually work with user input! With some heavy researching and some solid determination Savio finally found a solution. He managed to modify the software on the iPhone to allow a live dual image output to the large 42″ lcd tv while maintaining the image in landscape mode. Reko originally came up with the idea and really pushed to see his vision come to life two years ago. This year John and Reko plan to compete in most of the local and online contest to win back all the money they invested in the costumes. The team has about $2000 into the two costumes and has no regrets!
