Television host Jimmy Kimmel of Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently issued another viewer challenge. This time he asked his viewers to unplug their television at a crucial moment during the Super Bowl game, film what happens and upload the results to YouTube. In Hey Jimmy Kimmel I Unplugged the TV During the Game, we get to see the best (and most irate) results of folks unexpectedly being pranked during the Super Bowl.

His challenges began last year when he first asked parents to tell their kids they ate all of their Halloween candy. Then he had a two part holiday challenge where he asked parents to give their kids an early but terrible present [1, 2].

You may remember we recently posted about the stark minimalistic “falling man” poster that was created to promote the upcoming fifth season of Mad Men. Well, the street version of that poster has taken on a meme of its own, where it has been humorously altered (either in real life or digitally) to incorporate the “falling man” into a funny scene. He can now be found breakdancing, bouncing on a trampoline and being saved by Superman. Someone even brought beloved Muppet, Cookie Monster of Sesame Street, into the act. Gothamist has been taking submissions of the altered image and has posted two galleries of the best ones [gallery 1, gallery 2]. If you wish to alter your own, here is a clean digital version from AMC, the producers of Mad Men.

In Unreal Estate, Austin-based serigraph artist Tim Doyle re-imagines familiar locales from popular culture in a series of hand-printed screenprints and original art. Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco, California is hosting a solo exhibition of these pieces beginning with the opening reception on February 2, 2012 from 6 PM until 10 PM. The show runs through February 23, 2012.

From Moe’s Tavern to the Bluth Banana Stand, Doyle’s realistic and illustrative reinterpretations of television’s most iconic places is a captivating voyage. In the artists words, “Unreal Estate’ is a collection of locations that many of us know and have been to on a weekly basis at times, but can never actually visit. These places are in our memories transmitted and entrenched there through a cathode-ray tube. Some of us have been going to these places for decades, some of these places were taken from us, way too soon.”

For these pieces Doyle moved away from his usually big bold colors and comic-book line quality to create a more illustrative style, with muted tones and colors that reflect a mood or time of day. He attempts to preserve and honor the non-physical spaces found in this show with the same care and intention given to iconic real world locations. This series is one artist’s intensely personal journey through a world which is universal to us all.

It looks like NBC is proposing a mid-2013 spinoff of the hit television comedy series, The Office, which would feature Dwight Schrute, the character played by actor Rainn Wilson.

I hear that NBC is working on an Office spinoff starring Rainn Wilson for a potential midseason 2013 launch. No deals have been closed yet but I’ve learned that the proposed spinoff is a family comedy, which was the brainchild of Wilson and The Office executive producer/showrunner Paul Lieberstein. It will have Dwight (Wilson) living at the Schrute family beet farm and bed & breakfast, which have been featured on the show several times, including in an episode where Jim and Pam visited Dwight there.

When Will Ferrell is “not too busy being a big-time Hollywood phony”, he’s busy making awesome local commercials for Old Milwaukee beer in Davenport, Iowa; Terre Haute, Indiana; and yes, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Owner of the Old Milwaukee brand, Pabst Brewing Company, was approached by the comedian in September 2011 to do the unscripted commercial spots for free simply because he loves the brand. Bryan Crowley, Pabst Brewing’s chief marketing officer, wrote the Quad-City Times an email explaining Ferrell’s participation in the commercials, “Will approached Old Milwaukee because he’s a big fan of the beer and thought it would be fun to make the commercials, and we couldn’t be more excited that he did”.

The commercials have only aired in the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois and have been posted online from folks recording their actual televisions.

As the Old Milwaukee slogan says, It doesn’t get any better than this!
