<p>In 2011, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/themontypythonmuseum/">The Monty Python Museum</a> posted this <a href="http://youtu.be/4Jro6qA2kp8">video clip</a> of <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/johncleese">John Cleese</a> playing Satan in a circa 1966 sketch on the satirical television show, <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Frost_Report">The Frost Report</a></em>.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.openculture.com/2012/05/john_cleese_plays_the_devil.html">Open Culture describes</a> a bit of the show&#8217;s history:</p>
<blockquote><p>John Cleese plays a cash-strapped Prince of Darkness in this classic sketch from The Frost Report, the show that launched Cleese as a television star in Britain. He was 26 years old at the time. The program was hosted by David Frost, who is perhaps best known for his 1977 interviews of Richard Nixon. There were four other future Monty Python comedians on the writing staff of The Frost Report–Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Eric Idle–but only Cleese was a cast member. The show was broadcast in 1966 and 1967, with each weekly episode centered around a particular theme, like love, leisure, class and authority. The &#8216;Souls in Torment Appeal&#8217; is from a March 24, 1966 program about sin. It’s a funny sketch.</p></blockquote>

<p>It&#8217;s no secret that I am a big fan of <a href="http://www.marshmallowfluff.com">Fluff</a> and last year I befriended someone who is as equally into Fluff as I am, the charming <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Fluffco">Susan Olsen</a> (&#8220;Cindy Brady&#8221; of <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Brady_Bunch">The Brady Bunch</a></em>). <p><em><a href="http://youtu.be/k2k4Z12VHZk">Nancy &#038; Lee in Las Vegas</a></em> is an hour-long Swedish documentary TV special that follows <a href="http://www.nancysinatra.com/">Nancy Sinatra</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Hazlewood">Lee Hazlewood</a> both onstage and behind-the-scenes during their 1972 concerts at the <a href="http://www.rivierahotel.com">Riviera Hotel</a> in Las Vegas. This often candid film was directed by <a href="http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torbj%C3%B6rn_Axelman">Torbjörn Axelman</a> and was produced by Sinatra&#8217;s late husband, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Sinatra">Hugh Lambert</a>. It also features scenes with Nancy&#8217;s mother, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_relationships_of_Frank_Sinatra#Nancy_Barbato">Nancy Barbato</a>. As a longtime fan of both Sinatra and Hazlewood, I really appreciated this look at their sometimes less-than-glamourous time on a casino stage (and their jazzy live version of the song <em>Jackson</em>). It is <a href="http://www.thevideobeat.com/music-documentaries/nancy-lee-vegas-1973.html">available to purchase</a> on DVD from The Video Beat.</p>
<p><span style="text-align:center; display: block;"><a href="http://laughingsquid.com/a-documentary-of-nancy-sinatra-lee-hazlewood-in-las-vegas-1972/"><img src="http://img.youtube.com/vi/k2k4Z12VHZk/2.jpg" alt="" /></a></span></p>
<p><a href="http://nancysinatra.com/blog/2011/05/remember-principle-nancy-las-vegas-19691982/">According to the Nancy Sinatra blog</a>, Sinatra performed in Las Vegas from 1969 to 1982. <em>Billboard</em> reviewed the Riviera Hotel show in February 1972:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Gowned in a backless, silver pants outfit and banked in a magnificent stage set with white light she knows how to sell hard, man type songs to the cafe crowd. Opening with ‘Let Yourself Go,’ she goes immediatley into ‘Candy Man,’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine When He’s Gone,’ and a country arrangement of ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night’ which had heavy use of the steel guitar…[Lee Hazlewood's] duets with Miss Sinatra are solid and strong. The RCA recording team did their hits plus the new ‘Arkansas Coal.’&#8221; </p></blockquote>
<p>Torbjörn Axelman also directed the 1970 TV special starring Hazlewood titled <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_in_Sweden">Cowboy in Sweden</a></em>. Here&#8217;s a <a href="http://youtu.be/Rs3x3t5ug6Y">clip</a> from that special that features Hazlewood&#8217;s song, <em>The Night Before</em>:</p>

<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Polaroid_instant_cameras">Polaroid cameras</a> sponsored &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tonight_Show">The Tonight Show</a>&#8221; with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonight_Starring_Steve_Allen">Steve Allen</a> and later <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Paar#The_Tonight_Show">Jack Paar</a> for many years in the 1950&#8242;s and 60&#8242;s. In that era show hosts commonly endorsed products during the show rather that just cutting to commercials. This clip from a 1960 episode shows Jack Paar trying to do his in-show plug for the Polaroid <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_camera">Land Camera</a> while comedian <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Lewis">Jerry Lewis</a> generally runs amuck and literally drives Paar up the wall. </p>
<p>Nearly 40 years later, here&#8217;s a <a href="http://youtu.be/4_PTucFMQI4?t=15m33s">Polaroid I-Zone camera ad circa 1999</a> which features a young <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0666739/">Aaron Paul</a> (Jesse on <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903747/">Breaking Bad</a></em>) as a happy sticky-picture-snapping teenager&#8211;he was about 20 at the time. Click the image to see <a href="http://youtu.be/4_PTucFMQI4?t=15m33s">the video</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://youtu.be/4_PTucFMQI4?t=15m33s"><img src="http://laughingsquid.com/wp-content/uploads/AaronPaul_Polaroidizonead-640x488.jpg" alt="Aaron Paul in Polaroid I-Zone ad" title="Aaron Paul in Polaroid I-Zone ad" width="640" height="488" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-154885" /></a></p>
<p>Of course <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polaroid_Corporation#Bankruptcy_and_the_.22new.22_Polaroid_Corporation">Polaroid ain&#8217;t what it used to be</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>On October 11, 2001, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polaroid_Corporation">Polaroid Corporation</a> filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Almost all the company&#8217;s assets (including the &#8220;Polaroid&#8221; name itself) were sold to a subsidiary of Bank One. They went on to form a new company, which also operates under the name &#8220;Polaroid Corporation&#8221;. It stopped making Polaroid cameras in 2007 and stopped selling Polaroid film after 2009, to the consternation of many users.</p></blockquote>
<p>However Polaroid film is at least available again thanks to the <a href="http://www.theimpossibleproject.com/">Impossible Project</a>. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_PTucFMQI4">A vintage Polaroid commercial montage</a> is below including both these ads plus appearances by Jack Paar, Steve Allen, Barry Manilow, James Garner and more.</p>
