Modische Atlas der Anatomie is a 2002 series of surreal photographic digital manipulations by Netherlands-based artist and photographer Koen Hauser. Each image gives the appearance that the subject’s skin has been pulled off and is exposing plastic anatomical parts.

Facebook Camera is a new iPhone app that streamlines the browsing and sharing of Facebook photos. Users can edit and share their own photos as well as browse the latest photos from their friends.

Share your photos in a snap with Facebook Camera. Post a bunch of photos to Facebook at once, and see what friends are up to with a feed of nothing but their photos.

Ca$hCats is a Tumblr blog where cats are humorously photographed with money, sometimes with big stacks of it. Image submissions are accepted.

In 2010, London-based photographer Martin Usborne shot poignant images of dogs in cars as a personal project. Those images are now being made into a book titled Dogs In Cars, A Photography Art Book. He recently began a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter to cover the book’s publishing costs.

The images in this series explore that feeling, both in relation to myself and to animals in general. The camera is the perfect tool for capturing a sense of silence and longing: the shutter freezes the subject for ever and two layers of glass are placed between the viewer and the viewed: the glass of the lens, the glass of the picture frame and, in this instance, the glass of the car window further isolates the animal. The dog is truly trapped.

In the portrait series “Foam Sculptures,” Dutch photographer Suzanne Jongmans adorns her subjects in packing foam costumes and creates wonderful portraits of them in a style reminiscent of 17th century Dutch Golden Age portraiture. In the altered photo series “Deconstructing the Houses,” large suburban homes appear fragmented and jumbled, almost as if they are falling down. The images are by designer Michael Jantzen. We previously wrote about Jantzen’s wonderful Modular M-House.

Ricky Brigante of Inside the Magic was one of the first people to participate in the Carbon Freeze Me Experience at Walt Disney World’s Star Wars Weekends. He shared some images with us of his visit and even better, a video of himself getting his face 3D scanned in the “Carbon Freezing Chamber”. He expects to receive his personalized Han Solo-style carbonite figurine in about a month.

He describes his visit on Inside the Magic:

Complete with dramatic shades of orange, blue, and red, winding ducts overhead, and plenty of fog, the ominous setup certainly sets the mood for being turned into Jabba’s next wall decoration. And Disney’s Cast Members were playing the part too, frequently referring to me as a “rebel spy” and asking what I “did” to receive my sentence.

About 7 minutes into the video, Hurley shows a series of comparison photos—the difference is remarkable:

“Burning House” is an amazing photo series by Carrie Schneider of a house that appears to be burning constantly, at all hours of the day and in a succession of seasons. There is no digital trickery at work—over the course of 2 years, Schneider built 15 small houses, burning them on an island in a Wisconsin lake in different seasons and at different times of day.

San Francisco-based photographer and comedy show producer Dan Dion recently posted an article on his blog titled In Praise of Patton Oswalt which featured some wonderful early photos of the comedian. One photo, in particular, shows Oswalt with Laura Milligan, Greg Behrendt, Brian Posehn, and Blaine Capatch in 1994. Oswalt will be hosting the 16th Annual Webby Awards on May 21, 2012.

Here’s a snippet from Dan’s original post from February 2012:

Hollywood had once again siphoned off some of The City’s most promising performers, and was trying desperately to figure out how best to vampirize native daughter Margaret Cho. But SF was still a mecca for stand-ups, and a peak was imminent with the ascension of a few bright locals, and the immigration of several others- locals Greg Behrendt, Laura Milligan, Brian Posehn, and Arj Barker broke out. Fiery journeymen Marc Maron and Tom Rhodes hung out their shingles from our hills, and from the Baltimore/D.C. area came Jeff Hatz, Blaine Capatch, and Patton Oswalt- a comic triumvirate raised on Monty Python, Alan Moore, and The Pixies. “The Class of 1992″ had arrived.

I was a part of that class, too. albeit with a different function. I’d put my Jesuit philosophy degree to work as a staff member of the Holy City Zoo, San Francisco’s most historic and legendary comedy club…It was here that I married my love of comedy with my photography career and started shooting portraits of these most dynamic artists.

The eldest is 111-year-old Mollie Wood (b. 1901) and the youngest is 7-week-old Braylin Higgins (b. 2012). Photographer and neighbor Christian DeBaun saw the opportunity to capture some amazing portraits of the family.

Brooklyn-based art cooperative United Photo Industries will host Photoville, a large-scale photographic village created with shipping containers in Brooklyn Bridge Park in summer 2012. Photoville starts Friday June 22, 2012 and runs through Sunday July 1, 2012.

This summer we are taking the next step in helping to create an extraordinary global community of artists. Working in partnership with local galleries, national institutions, and an international network of curatorial partners, we are building PHOTOVILLE – a unique, large-scale, photographic village with Shipping Containers in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park, at the Pier 3 Uplands, located on the Brooklyn Waterfront.

With its primary focus of celebrating photography in all its forms and across all levels, PHOTOVILLE will be a feisty mix of exhibitions, lectures, hands-on workshops, nighttime projections, photo dog run, and a summer beer-garden that will create a photographic destination like no other.

UPDATE: Photoville was featured in The New York Times Lens blog and is raising funds for the event via Kickstarter.

The Instagram Socialmatic Camera is a design concept for a combination digital camera and photo printer for Instagram. The camera would include replaceable paper and ink cartridges, as well as 16 GB of memory. It would sync with Instagram and Facebook accounts. The concept is by ADR Studio in Italy.

You may remember the recent shot of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge being struck by lightning during a heavy storm. Austin, Texas has been experiencing severe storms of their own. On May 5, 2012, photographer Marco Gutiérrez captured this stunning photo of the Pennybacker Bridge where it looks like it’s being struck by lightning. Gutiérrez submitted the image to Austin’s KXAN News.

“Our World Unwrapped” is a wonderful series of distorted panoramas of famous landmarks by technical director Søren Ragsdale of Double Negative Visual Effects. He created them with a two-step digital process:

Basically I take a bunch of regular flat photos, I stitch them into a hemisphere (globe), and I project the hemisphere into a flat map. You get distortion at the corners, similar to how a map of the earth distorts the poles.

Photographer Mike Dotsch captured this beautiful photo of the sunrise as seen through the eyes of a fish skull. The photo was an entrant in the 2011 Popular Photography Readers Photo Contest.

Came upon these fish bones while walking on the shore of Lake Huron near Alpena, Michigan. I lowered my old bones to sand level and caught the sun peeking through his empty, sandy eyes.

The Verge reports that Instagram is developing its own analog camera called the Snap (video). It’s a great new way to share your photos with “the 6.95 billion people that aren’t on Instagram.” The spoof ad appeared on Episode 005 of “On The Verge.”
