You may remember we recently posted about the stark minimalistic “falling man” poster that was created to promote the upcoming fifth season of Mad Men. Well, the street version of that poster has taken on a meme of its own, where it has been humorously altered (either in real life or digitally) to incorporate the “falling man” into a funny scene. He can now be found breakdancing, bouncing on a trampoline and being saved by Superman. Someone even brought beloved Muppet, Cookie Monster of Sesame Street, into the act. Gothamist has been taking submissions of the altered image and has posted two galleries of the best ones [gallery 1, gallery 2]. If you wish to alter your own, here is a clean digital version from AMC, the producers of Mad Men.

Has Anyone Said This Shit? is a search engine for the many, many spin-off videos from the “Shit Girls Say” meme (the search engine has indexed more than 675 videos so far). The search engine was created by F.A.T. in collaboration with Lindsey Weber and Tanner Ringerud of BuzzFeed.

Comedy duo Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal of Rhett & Link have released their latest video, Dope Zebra. The music video features dancers in a two-man zebra suit dancing to the single by the same name (available on iTunes). Keep an eye out for a cameo by Chuck Testa, who they helped turn into a huge internet meme.

Lots of you have already asked, “Who’s in the front? Who’s in the back?” Sorry to disappoint you, but we quickly realized that we would serve this video better by directing instead of dancing. Proving again that the internet is made of cats, Tomomi Imura has combined HTTP status codes with familiar cat images in her HTTP Status Cats series. For example, the image of the bobcat sitting on a cactus is amusingly paired with the “502 Bad Gateway” message. Canada-based self-taught artist Bashir Sultani creates incredible art “drawings” out of ordinary salt (and films his entire process) in his Art with Salt series. He chooses familiar and sometimes topical images from popular culture to create with salt, such as Darth Vader, Nyan Cat, a pro-99% statement on the Occupy movement and many more.

Epic Win for Anonymous: How 4chan’s Army Conquered the Web by Cole Stryker tells the story of 4chan: the anarchic message board, meme incubator, and birthplace of Anonymous. The book will be released on September 1, 2011.

4chan is the “Anti-Facebook,” a site that radically encourages anonymity. It spawned the hacktivist group Anonymous, which famously defended WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange by bringing down MasterCard’s and Visa’s Web sites. Created by a 15-year-old wunderkind in 2003, it is the creative force behind “the Web’s most infectious memes and catchphrases” (Wired). Today it has over 12 million monthly users, with enormous social influence to match.

Cole was recently interviewed by Nitasha Tiku of Betabeat about his new book.

So how did you get started with the book?

I was writing a series of posts about the Jessi Slaughter scenario last summer and those posts got the attention of a literary agent who wanted to do a book on cyber-bullying. While I would have done that book, I was much more interested in the community of 4chan where a lot of that stuff comes from. What motivates someone to try to destroy someone else’s life online? Why is it this place where everyone’s anonymous?

Winnebago Man, the documentary by Ben Steinbauer about Jack Rebney, a famously angry Winnebago salesman, is currently available for free online viewing at SnagFilms and Hulu. We previously wrote about the documentary shortly before its theatrical release in June.

The results aren’t quite the same, which leads us to believe that everything’s better with cute animals (including travel search!).
