It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Fluff and last year I befriended someone who is as equally into Fluff as I am, the charming Susan Olsen (“Cindy Brady” of The Brady Bunch). We bonded over our love of Fluff and last fall, we both traveled to the What the Fluff? Festival (photos) in Somerville, Massachusetts where Susan, an artist, sold prints of her Fluff Art. She is also a strong advocate for animal welfare and works with Precious Paws, a nonprofit animal rescue organization in Encino, Calfornia.

If you are in the Los Angeles (Burbank) area tonight, Friday May 11, 2012, there is a fundraising event called A Night With Susan Olsen & Her Art at Theresa’s Family Restaurant. Susan (who has a delightfully quirky sense of humor) will be selling her artwork and handmade Candy Kitten Crap (made with Fluff, of course) to benefit Precious Paws.

D23 Presents Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives will be the largest-ever exhibition of Disney props, costumes, artwork, and artifacts ever curated and put on display by the Walt Disney Archives. It will feature “more than 500 artifacts, at least half of which have never been seen by the public.” The exhibition is presented by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in Simi Valley, California. It opens July 6, 2012 and will continue through April 2013. You may remember we recently posted a video from Weird Disney that dug up some odd items from the Walt Disney Archives.

On Saturday April 28, 2012, folks with iPads are asked to gather at The Forge in Los Angeles from 3 PM to 8 PM to create a Jumboltron, a crowd-sourced jumbotron made from iPads. This project is hosted by Nate Bolt, Ryan Schude, Lauren Lemon and Gabriela Herman.

…basically, come hang out at and help us build giant images out of iPads for no good reason. We’d like to gather many of you and your iPads for a few hours to assemble things like cars, people, living rooms, giant messages, and other craziness out of iPads.

In the short video From Lunch to Landfill, Mae Ryan of KPSeeSee, the visuals team for Southern California pubic radio station KPCC, shows what happens to food trash as it makes it way through Los Angeles from the restaurant to landfill.

Artist Jason D’Aquino illustrates incredible miniature drawings in graphite on the inside of vintage matchbook covers. Most of them feature iconic pop culture images and are just 1″ X 1″. His upcoming show of these works titled Phillumeny opens at La Luz De Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, California on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 8 PM to 11 PM. D’Aquino has posted an image gallery of these pieces on his site.

In the recent past we posted about the Pheromone Party, the parties conceived by Judith Prays where attendees search for love based on the smell of other’s worn t-shirts. Recently Justin Rocket Silverman of The Daily experienced a pheromone party for himself in Los Angeles. Check out the video produced by ThunderLush where Justin can be found huffing dirty t-shirts and learning about the search for love through smell.

Obscura Day is an annual “international celebration of unusual places, full of expeditions, back room tours & explorations of the hidden wonders in your own hometown” fronted by the Atlas Obscura project. Obscura Day 2012 takes place on April 28, 2012 with events in cities all over the world.

Caine’s Arcade is a heartwarming film short about Caine, an enterprising 9-year old boy who made an elaborate cardboard arcade inside his dad’s used auto parts shop in East Los Angeles. The magic really happens when the arcade’s first (and only) customer, filmmaker Nirvan Mullick, arranges for a special surprise for Caine in the way of a customer flashmob. The film premiered October 28, 2011 at DIY Days at UCLA and both Caine and Nirvan were in attendance. The full story is at the Caine’s Arcade website and donations are being taken for a scholarship fund to benefit Caine’s education. The best part: you can go visit Caine and his wonderful handmade arcade if you are in the Los Angeles area. Be sure to bring cash for the Fun Pass.

In Eye of the Riley, Riley the Corgi dog had a GoPro camera strapped to his back and then took a hike through Runyon Canyon Park in Los Angeles, California. Syejukoon, Riley’s human companion, created a customized backpack so he could capture the hike from Riley’s point of view.
