(cough.)In the wake of increasing raids on Medical Marijuana dispensaries by local, state and federal drug enforcement agencies, the LAgo brand’s brand-new, flagship storefront is set to open on May 26, 2012 at Known Gallery located at 441 North Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. The LAgo brand, as a perpetual “harvest” of healing power, has been especially commodified to meet the addictions of anyone who has ever wanted to experience the transaction of purchasing medical marijuana – or fine art – at a legal business organization. Synthetic starter-plants, seedlings, clones and a totally huge selection of intoxicating, fake plastic buds- all built with LEGO bricks to resemble some of the finest strains of medicinal marijuana ever grown- will be on display and available for limited purchase.
It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Fluff and last year I befriended someone who is as equally into Fluff as I am, the charming Susan Olsen (“Cindy Brady” of The Brady Bunch). Susan (who has a delightfully quirky sense of humor) will be selling her artwork and handmade Candy Kitten Crap (made with Fluff, of course) to benefit Precious Paws.

The costumed road race known as Rental Car Rally is back and this time they are going from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The race starts on Friday June 22 and goes to Saturday June 23, 2012. Tickets are available to purchase now.

What’s included in the price of my ticket?

The ticket includes admission to the rally; the rally briefcase for your team (the rally booklet w/ rules and coordinates for checkpoints, the rally contact sheet w/ info on other drivers, bottle rockets, smoke bombs, condoms, cigarettes, chaw, stuff like that); the rally pre-party and drink specials before the rally begins; and two huge post-rally parties at the destination. Potentially, you could also win a golden gas pump, the respect of your competitors, the fawning gazes of women, a sense of higher purpose, increased confidence in the bedroom, and healthier skin.

Gallery1988 Melrose is hosting Memes, a group tribute art show to the “Internet’s best inside jokes” which is also a celebration of the gallery’s 8th year at the corner of Melrose and La Brea. The opening reception is May 4, 2012 from 7 PM to 10 PM and the show runs through May 26, 2012. On Saturday May 5, 2012 from 12 PM to 2 PM, Gallery1988 is hosting a special event as part of the Memes art show. They are bringing in “Randall,” the voice from the Honey Badger video.

Gallery1988 celebrates it’s 8 year anniversary in style, with over 100 artists creating paintings, prints, sculptures and one-of-a-kind all in the name of Internet “memes.” Whether it’s Nyan Cat, I Like Turtles, Cat Breading, Star Wars Kid, Hipster Ariel or LOL cats, some of our favorite artists pay homage to our favorite way to waste time online…

We’ve invited over 100 of the gallery’s favorite artists, and some new names to 1988, to create artwork inspired by the Internet’s biggest phenomenons such as Antoine Dodson, Scumbag Steve, Sad Keanu, Philosoraptor, Sh*t Girls Say, Hipster Mermaid and Honey Badger. Artists have created original paintings, prints, sculptures and plush that have to be seen to be believed.

In the recent past we posted about the Pheromone Party, the parties conceived by Judith Prays where attendees search for love based on the smell of other’s worn t-shirts. Recently Justin Rocket Silverman of The Daily experienced a pheromone party for himself in Los Angeles. Check out the video produced by ThunderLush where Justin can be found huffing dirty t-shirts and learning about the search for love through smell.

Caine’s Arcade is a heartwarming film short about Caine, an enterprising 9-year old boy who made an elaborate cardboard arcade inside his dad’s used auto parts shop in East Los Angeles. The magic really happens when the arcade’s first (and only) customer, filmmaker Nirvan Mullick, arranges for a special surprise for Caine in the way of a customer flashmob. The film premiered October 28, 2011 at DIY Days at UCLA and both Caine and Nirvan were in attendance. The full story is at the Caine’s Arcade website and donations are being taken for a scholarship fund to benefit Caine’s education. The best part: you can go visit Caine and his wonderful handmade arcade if you are in the Los Angeles area. Be sure to bring cash for the Fun Pass.
