The quirky music video for the song Zeroes & Ones by California-based indie rock band Baby Seal Club is full of chickens pecking at beet-filled human figures in a tiny faux Apple store. The song (which I think is pretty great) is from their upcoming album titled Default World, due out in summer 2012. The video was conceived & produced by Fudo, Wizzbang, Olava & Uncle Stabby.

Wizz Bang, the band’s Chief-Chicken Wrangler, described the video’s shoot in detail at the Baby Seal Club website:

I have raised many birds from egg to adulthood and one thing I’ve discovered along the way is that the baby chicks really enjoy eating the shredded vegetable fiber that shoots out the back of our big juicer. Being a somewhat macabre chicken-wrangler and verified horror flick fan, I noticed that the beet fibers looked a lot like viscera and guts – the amazing reddish color, the stringy consistency, and the hard-to-identify-on-film quality of the stuff thus sparked an idea. I began feeding them the stuff everyday as a “treat,” so they would become good and hungry for it when it was time to be on the set.

According to Deadline London, the San Jose, California-based Winchester Mystery House is going to be used to make a (currently unnamed) feature-length film by horror production studio Hammer.

Hammer has optioned the rights to the story of the San Jose, California-based Winchester Mystery House which is considered the world’s most haunted. The studio is developing and producing a feature with Imagination Design Works and Nine/8 Entertainment. Shooting will take place at the real house whose history dates back to about 1884. Lore has it that Sarah Winchester, the heiress to the Winchester Rifle fortune, was convinced she was haunted by the spirits of those killed by “the gun that won the west.” Following a medium’s advice, Sarah built a massive house to appease the spirits – and never stopped building it. The belief was that if she never ceased construction, she would live forever.

Shove Mink of Croshame has crocheted Carrie Bear, a bloodied art doll that is a cross between a teddy bear and Carrie from the 1976 horror movie of the same name. Carrie Bear is available to purchase at the Croshame Etsy shop and “comes with her own sash, rose bouquet, and bucket of spilled pig’s blood.” We have also posted about Croshame’s crocheted Krampus doll, crocheted Exorcist playset and crocheted Spock ears.

Besides “Don’t play ball in the house”, the one great piece of motherly advice Carrie Bear got was, “They’re all going to laugh at you!” And by God, was she right! Poor Carrie Bear got a very cruel prank played on her at the high school prom, and now she’s really steamed and ready for revenge. Will she use her awesome powers of Telekinesis to pull down the jokers’ pants? Or maybe put Saran Wrap over their toilet seats? So many choices… but I’m guessing she’ll probably just burn the whole school down instead.

This is a handmade crocheted figure, made from acrylic yarns and featuring plastic safety eyes and felt embellishments. Carrie Bear has a permanently attached sash reading “Prom Queen 1976″ on it, holds a removable bouquet of roses in her hand, and has a glitter foam crown on her head. “Blood drips” are created with an acrylic paint-gel medium mixture. She also comes with her small bucket of spilt pig’s blood.

The trailer has been released for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the thriller/horror movie produced by Tim Burton about the Great Emancipator as a bad-ass ax-twirling vampire slayer. Director Timur Bekmambetov adapted the mashup novel by author Seth Grahame-Smith to create the film’s screenplay. The film opens in theatres on June 22, 2012.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

Chicago-based illustrator Johnny Sampson created a swell retro-styled series of tour posters done in horror comic style for Yonder Mountain String Band, a bluegrass/rock quartet based out of Colorado. The screen-printed posters are available to purchase from the artist.

“Pingu’s THE THING” is a twisted claymation mashup of John Carpenter’s The Thing, and Pingu, a claymation children’s show about penguins. The short claymation is by Lee Hardcastle (making-of video).

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a 2010 film about the “real” Santa Claus: an ancient, super-powered, child-eating sonuvabitch. This Finnish film, written and directed by Jalmari Helander and starring the adorable child actor Onni Tommila. Rare Exports is classed as a horror film, but it’s more a dark, scary Grimms’ Fairy Tale than a Hollywood holiday-themed slasher film. And it has a cutting comic edge as well.

Set in Lapland and incorporating various traditional pagan legends of Santa this feature film was preceded by a pair of internet-released short films which we posted here three years ago.

If that’s not enough, Roger Ebert gave it 3.5 out of 4 stars while comparing Rare Exports to both The Thing and A Christmas Story. I’d also recommend it for fans of equally off-beat Korean monster movie The Host.

Model Heidi Klum, already known for over-the-top Halloween costumes, donned a custom skintight, and quite gory, skinned dead body (ala “Visible Woman”) costume to the 12th Heidi Klum’s Annual Halloween party which she hosted at the The Venetian Resort’s TAO Nightclub in Las Vegas. For ‘authenticity’, she made her grand entrance by being wheeled in on an autopsy table by two bloody ‘medical professionals’. The macabre ‘body’suit was created by costume designer Martin Izquierdo.

Stained glass pop artists, Mark Bloom and Maggie Rickard of Velvet Glass, handcrafted this series of Classic Monster Mosaics based on the horror films of the 1930s. Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Mummy, Dracula, and The Wolfman are all beautifully represented in monochromatic black-and-white stained glass mosaics.

For Halloween, California-based Psycho Donuts has made a Friday the 13th inspired donut in the powdery likeness of serial killer Jason Voorhees’ murder mask. It is a chocolate-raised donut filled with raspberry ‘blood’ and is topped with powdered sugar.
