In celebration of today’s Moon landing anniversary Google has launched a Moon section in Google Earth, so that you can now explore the Moon in Google Earth.

Land on the Moon in Google Earth. With Moon in Google Earth, you can take tours narrated by Apollo astronauts, view 3D models of landed spacecraft, zoom into 360-degree photos, and watch rare TV footage of the Apollo missions.

Google has just announced their new open source operating system Google OS.

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

Google Apps is finally out of beta, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Talk.

We’ve come to appreciate that the beta tag just doesn’t fit for large enterprises that aren’t keen to run their business on software that sounds like it’s still in the trial phase. So we’ve focused our efforts on reaching our high bar for taking products out of beta, and all the applications in the Apps suite have now met that mark.

Using Google Earth you can view ultrahigh-resolution photos of art masterpieces located in Madrid’s Prado Museum.

Viewing a Velasquez or a Rembrandt in a place like Spain’s Prado museum is a unique experience. Now you can use Google Earth technology to navigate reproductions of the Prado’s masterpieces, delving even deeper into the Prado’s collection. In Google Earth, you can get close enough to examine a painter’s brushstrokes or the craquelure on the varnish of a painting. The images of these works are about 14,000 million pixels, 1,400 times more detailled than the image a 10 megapixel digital camera would take. In addition, you’ll be able to see a spectacular 3D reproduction of the museum.

Similar Images

Similar Images allows you to search for images using pictures rather than words. With the similar images feature, most images have a link below them that lets you find other images like them. There’s no need for you to refine the text of your query. Your new results will be tailored based on whatever image you select.

Google News Timeline

A web application that organizes information chronologically. Google News Timeline allows users to view news, scanned newspapers and magazines, blog posts, sports scores, and more on a zoomable, graphical timeline.

Google has just launched SearchWiki which allows you customize your search results.

Today we’re launching SearchWiki, a way for you to customize search by re-ranking, deleting, adding, and commenting on search results. With just a single click you can move the results you like to the top or add a new site. You can also write notes attached to a particular site and remove results that you don’t feel belong. These modifications will be shown to you every time you do the same search in the future. SearchWiki is available to signed-in Google users. We store your changes in your Google Account.

Google is hosting the LIFE Magazine Photo Archive, featuring an amazing collection of photos and etchings dating back to the 1750’s. Each photo has it’s own page with additional information, including the name of the photographer, date and location. Once the archive is fully digitized, it will total around 20 million images.

On their AdSense blog, Google indirectly responded to the controversy surrounding the massive influx of unwanted “Yes on 8″ ads that showed up on many websites right before the election. Not only did these ads appear on blogs like Laughing Squid in response to “No on 8″ posts, they also showed up on blogs that had absolutely not political content at all, including blogs that haven’t even been updated recently.
