Craig Engler of Syfy has authored the book titled Weight Hacking: A Guide For Geeks Who Want to Lose Weight and Get Fit which “is simply an operating system for nerds that shows them easy ways to incorporate better eating and sound nutrition into a geeky lifestyle.” Weighthacker is the companion resource site for made for “weight hackers” (people who devise clever solutions to lose weight). He is currently holding a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo to publish the book and if you’d like a copy, you can donate to the campaign and choose to receive the book as a perk.

Star Trek original television series actress Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura on the USS Enterprise) recently visited the White House for Black History Month. She was given a photo opportunity with President Obama and they both posed with their hands firmly giving the Vulcan salute in the Oval Office.

Indie geek channel Geek & Sundry launched today and released I’m the One That’s Cool, a geek rock anthem by The Guild starring Felicia Day. Right at the beginning check out that cool The Guild emblazoned drum. The single is available to purchase online (MP3, iTunes). You might remember back in 2009 when The Guild released another music video, Do You Wanna Date My Avatar.

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has created Chip Earrings, their Five Minute Project that either uses pre-holed linear regulator chips or ones that require drilling to create unique geek jewelry.

For Pi Day, Shannon at a periodic table has created the apple Pi, a wonderfully clever apple pie where the fruit and crust adornments are cut into numbers.

I think it’s safe to say this may be the geekiest baking project I’ve done to date. And that’s saying something, as I am prone to geeking out in the kitchen a wee little bit. I mean, it’s a pie made entirely of apple numbers. And then topped with more numbers, this time of the crust variety. Oh, and not only numbers, you see, but the numbers of that beloved symbol of Nerdland (and I mean that in a good way), Pi.

Writer and illustrator Rich Burlew has been writing The Order of the Stick, a comedic webcomic about D&D-style roleplaying games and medieval fantasy, for nearly 10 years. In addition to the online versions, Burlew has been self-publishing hard copy compilations for his fans. The third and largest anthology went out of print in 2010, so Burlew is turning to Kickstarter to raise funds for a second printing. As of this writing, he has raised $393,807, making his fundraiser one of the top 10 highest funded Kickstarter projects to date, and notably, the only book project in the top 10.

YouTuber crysknife007 has isolated the ambient engine hum of the Starship Enterprise as heard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The sound is looped repeatedly into a 24 hour long YouTube movie.

One of my favorite things about the Star Trek franchise are all the great ambient sounds that represent the engine noise on the various ships. My favorite ambient noise from the whole series is the engine idling noise in TNG. I have cleaned up a sample from the show and then looped it for 24 hours. Great for ambiance and imagining that you’re in deep space.

CPU Wars is a simple trump card game in which computer processors (and their specifications) are pitted against one another. The game’s creator, Harry Mylonadis, collected 30 processors spanning the past 40 years of computer development in order to create the game’s cards. He’s raising funds for the game on Kickstarter.

The “2012 Time Travel Calendar” by graphic designer Alex Griendling is a wall calendar that lists 2.6 billion years of notable time travel events from movies, TV shows, comics, and videogames. Griendling is raising funds for the project on Kickstarter.

There are 97 different properties in the calendar. Each one has a unique icon that represents it. Some of these only show up once (Calvin and Hobbes, I’m looking at you), while others show up multiple times (Star Trek, anyone?). All together, there are 155 instances of time travel. Aside from learning about time travel movies you’ve never heard of, it’s always fun to see properties you’re familiar with line up with each other. Did you know that while Marty was saving Doc Brown from Mad Dog Tannen in 1885, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were battling Leatherhead aboard a speeding train? Now you do.

Iris 9000 by ThinkGeek is a retro futuristic speakerphone dock for the iPhone 4S and its Siri voice assistant inspired by the power hungry AI computer HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey. It allows an iPhone 4S owner to speak to Siri from up to 50 feet away. Iris 9000 will be available in April, 2012.

Illustrator Len Peralta has been working on round 2.0 in his latest set of trading card series titled Geek a Week 2.0.
We posted about his first set of Geek a Week trading cards in May 2010. That first set included 52 geeks, while Geek a Week 2.0 will be more focused and include just 15 geeks.

His fundraising campaign for this series is underway and has already been completely funded, but with several weeks left, there is still time to donate and get some sweet custom pledge gifts.
