Diablo III, the long awaited third installment of the Diablo dark fantasy video game series, has been released by Blizzard Entertainment.

Diablo III is a fantasy Action Role-Playing Game (RPG). Only the third major release in what is considered by many gamers as the most iconic RPG franchise of all time, Diablo 3 continues the land of Sanctuary’s battle against a reoccurring demonic evil, and provides players around the world with the opportunity to create the ultimate hero to quest against it with friends online, or on their own. Features include: classic dungeon crawling gameplay, a new batch of character classes, multiplayer options with friends and single player support with the help of AI companions, a new take on character skill assignment and health, online item auctioning, and compatibility with Windows and Mac operating systems.

Delta Heavy has made a stop-motion animated music video for their dubstep dance song Get By which incorporates and butchers up some classic games. The song comes from the album titled Down The Rabbit Hole and is available for pre-order from Ram Records. The video was directed, produced and animated by Ian Robertson and co-produced by Andy Dow.

Särkänniemi Adventure Park in Tampere, Finland is now home to Angry Birds Land, a themed section of the park that is based on the popular mobile game by Finnish video game development company Rovio Entertainment. It has 12 rides, an adventure course, food stands and games. Angry Birds Land is currently open but the official grand opening celebration happens June 8, 2012.

Last Saturday at ROFLCon III at MIT Duncan Robson debuted his latest video Three Point Landing during the Supercuts panel organized by Andy Baio. The video is a compilation of three point landings in movies and video games.

The Elder Scrolls Online, a new MMO based on the popular video game series The Elder Scrolls, is now in development at ZeniMax Online Studios and scheduled for release in 2013. The June issue of Game Informer has more info.

5th Ave Frogger is a hacked version of the classic video game Frogger that captures the positions of cars on 5th Avenue in New York City and maps them into the game in real-time (video). The game was developed by art director Tyler DeAngelo. He recently set up the game by 5th Avenue so pedestrians could give it a try.

Shira Lazar of What’s Trending got an opportunity to interview 9-year old Caine Monroy, the creator of the amazing cardboard arcade called Caine’s Arcade. His story was made into Caine’s Arcade, an inspiring short film by Nirvan Mullick which went viral. In this piece, Shira also talks a bit with his father George and filmmaker Nirvan and got to play at the arcade. A scholarship fund was created for Caine and within days, over $100,000 was raised for his future education.

RoboGames founders David Calkins and Simone Davalos have recently started a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter to help finance RoboGames 2012, a documentary film about their awesome robot competition.

Our goal is to record and edit a professional documentary featuring as many of RoboGames’ 60 events during the three days of frenetic robotic competition. The best matches and amazing robots will all be featured, along with interviews by the builders from around the world who built them.

We recently posted about RoboGames 2012 which happens Friday through Sunday, April 20-22, 2012 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds in San Mateo, California.

Caine’s Arcade is a heartwarming film short about Caine, an enterprising 9-year old boy who made an elaborate cardboard arcade inside his dad’s used auto parts shop in East Los Angeles. The magic really happens when the arcade’s first (and only) customer, filmmaker Nirvan Mullick, arranges for a special surprise for Caine in the way of a customer flashmob. The film premiered October 28, 2011 at DIY Days at UCLA and both Caine and Nirvan were in attendance. The full story is at the Caine’s Arcade website and donations are being taken for a scholarship fund to benefit Caine’s education. Al Lowe, the creator of the classic risqué adventure game series Leisure Suit Larry, is teaming up with Replay Games to remake the game that started the franchise: Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. The updated game will include high res graphics, new voice acting, and a point and click/touchscreen interface that will be compatible with mobile devices. Lowe and Replay Games are raising funds for the project on Kickstarter—if they make their fundraising goal, they plan on remaking Leisure Suit Larry games 2 through 7 as well.

100 Yen: The Japanese Arcade Experience directed by Brad Crawford is an upcoming documentary about Japan’s thriving arcade culture (trailer). The film’s production company, Strata Studios, is raising funds to complete the film on Indiegogo. We previously wrote about the film project last year.
