I recently had a chance to check out Her Majesty’s Secret Beekeeper, a beautiful beekeeping supply store and honey shop run by Cameo Wood, located in The Mission District of San Francisco next door to Mission: Comics and Art.

In 2008 Anheuser-Busch and Cadbury Schweppes teamed up to release two Latin themed cerveza preparada in the form of Chelada, featuring Budweiser or Bud Light mixed with Clamato. That right, Bud beer mixed with clam & tomato juice.

The name is derived from the Spanish word “michelada,” which loosely translates to “my cold beer.” More importantly, Budweiser & Clamato Chelada and Bud Light & Clamato Chelada are borne of an authentic Latino recipe, which Anheuser-Busch is been proud to bring to the masses.

A good friend living in Japan recently asked the twitterverse whether American Burger Kings would be selling the Windows 7 Whopper in America. In 140 characters it can be hard to tell whether someone is joking, but this announcement is as serious as a heart attack.

In an unusual cross-marketing campaign, Microsoft and Burger King Japan are offering the Windows 7 Whopper during the week of October 22-28 to celebrate the release of Windows 7. Measuring 13cm (5.1 inches) in diameter, the “Amerikanbanzu” (”supergiant”) Windows 7 Whopper features up to seven 113 gram (¼ pound) beef patties totaling 1.75 pounds. The first 30 customers can purchase a Windows 7 Whopper for the special price of ¥777 ($8.49), regular price ¥1450 ($15.84).

Japanese fast food restaurants are no strangers to bizarre marketing campaigns. A few years ago McDonalds introduced their similarly outrageous Mega Mac in a hip, elaborately choreographed, and wildly successful guerrilla marketing campaign.

While on a quest for dinner tonight in San Antonio, Yelp pointed me in the direction of Mamacita’s, a cavernous Tex-Mex restaurant setup as a faux Mexican town where people have dinner in the zocalo under a starry sky. That in itself was pretty bizzare, but what I didn’t expect was an impromptu performance by an animatronic Davy Crockett playing fiddle on the top of a replica of The Alamo.

It’s like a Tex-Mex Chuck E. Cheese.

Oh and the food was great, especially the tortillas that were made a few feet away.

I’m currently in the great state of Texas visiting our friends at Rackspace in San Antonio. I stopped by a carry out to pick up some beer and I came across Shiner Smokehaus, a special Mesquite Smoked Helles Style Sommer Bier released this year by Spoetzl Brewery out of Shiner, TX. The flavor is very unique and quite smoky.

Brewed with pale malt that’s been smoked with native mesquite in the backyard of our little brewery in Shiner, Texas (pop. 2,070), this refreshing Helles-style beer has a smoky flavor that goes great with all the flavors of summer. Prosit!

While in Los Angeles last week we stopped by Vibrato Grill Jazz, a beautiful restaurant and jazz club in Bel Air owned by renown musician Herb Alpert. Our friend Tony Campanale is the manager there and during our visit he introduced us to Pat Senatore, a charming man, who along with being the music director of the club, was the bass player for Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass.

The band performing the night we were there was the Rick Vittallo Quartet and at one point Slim Jim Phantom from the Stray Cats sat in on the drums.

On our way out I noticed a series of jazz musician sculptures over the bar. I asked Tony about them and he said that they came from the lobby of A&M Records. Herb Alpert is the “A” in A&M Records which he co-founded in 1962 with Jerry Moss.

Herb Alpert and his wife Lani Hall are currently on a US tour.

Violet Blue recently introduced me to Dynamo Donuts & Coffee, a cool new cafe in San Francisco’s Mission District that features a unique variety of donuts, such as maple glazed bacon apple and candied orange blossom. The coffee is quite good as well.

While in LA we stopped by Nate’n Al, the legendary deli and restaurant in Beverly Hills that’s been open since 1945. Larry King loves the place so much he moved to Beverly Hills be within walking distance of it.

My 4 pack of Tru Blood O Positive arrived last week, it’s a based on the synthetic blood substitute that vampires drink in the HBO series True Blood, which just finished Season 2.
