Max Landis (son of John Landis) poured himself a drink and then began ranting about the storyline of Superman in The Death and Return of Superman. As he rants, actors reenact the history of Superman in live-action sequences. Look for appearances by Simon Pegg, Ron Howard, Chris Hardwick, Elijah Wood and Mandy Moore in this film produced by Bryan Basham. It’s sort of a drunk history of Superman, even though Landis says he is not drunk in the video.

I’m not drunk in the video, I only get about three cups in. The original rant was 45 minutes long, so of course we had to cut a bunch of stuff out for time, and because it was just too stupid. Like for instance the part where Pa Kent dies of a heart attack and literally GOES TO HEAVEN. AND SEES SUPERMAN.

If I saw this video, I might nerd rage out so hard. But luckily I made it, so I’m pretty happy. Really I’d hope people just are with me, and happy that Guy Gardner and Bloodwynd get to be in a movie.

Iron Sky is a new feature-length sci-fi dark comedy set in 2018 about moon Nazis invading Earth. The films tagline: “Get Ready, The Fourth Reich Is Here.” According to the plot, Nazis from WWII have been secretly hanging out on the moon since 1945. Iron Sky is directed by Timo Vuorensola and opens in theatres on April 4, 2012.

The Nazis set up a secret base on the moon in 1945 where they hide out and plan to return to power in 2018.

God Bless America is a new dark comedy feature film written and directed by stand-up comedian Bobcat Goldthwait with the tagline: “Taking Out The Trash, One Jerk At A Time.” The film stars Joel Murray and Tara Lynne Barr and opens in theatres on May 11, 2012. It will be available on demand on April 6, 2012.

Pro-renewable energy company, Ecotricity, wants you to “dump the big six” and move towards “clean forms of power like wind, solar, wave & green gas.” The Big Six they are referring to are Britain’s (controversial) energy companies: EDF, Centrica (British Gas), Eon, RWE Npower, Scottish Power and Southern & Scottish Energy. To make a point, Ecotricity created this compilation film, Collapsing Cooling Towers, which shows several anthropomorphic towers looking quite surprised at their sudden demise.

It’s time to move on. Our country, and all of us, need to move from a fossil fuel past to a renewable energy future.

The mood in Britain has turned very much against the Big Six energy companies. And it’s not hard to see why. People are fed up with the unethical pricing, complex tariffs, awful customer service and the dire lack of investment in new sources of green energy.

It’s become quite unbearable, self evidently. Even the government are calling on people to leave the Big Six.

Banksy’s Coming For Dinner is a 2009 film in which Banksy attends a celebrity dinner hosted by Joan Collins (of Dynasty fame). The film was in fact an elaborate hoax conceived of and directed by Ivan Massow.

Experience the clash of celebrity, as Hollywood royalty Joan Collins and husband Percy meet Banksy, the most famous living artist in the world. Banksy’s Coming for Dinner is a film within a film and questions the very nature of ‘reality’ at every level.

Two brothers, Andrew and Nathan McMurry of andrewmfilms, have created Psycho Siri, a short horror film about an iPhone gone bad. The film makes Siri, the voice of the iPhone’s virtual assistant, the villain in this action-packed short filled with special effects.

An abandoned iPhone turns out to be a killer of a deal.

In Ferris Bueller, TV network AkooTV has pieced together a fun side-by-side video comparison of Matthew’s Day Off, the 2012 Superbowl Honda CR-V commercial starring actor Matthew Broderick, and the circa 1986 film that inspired it, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Business Insider compiled an entire gallery of the side-by-side screenshots from AkooTV’s comparison piece.

Here’s the official trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, the rebooted Spider-Man movie directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. The film is scheduled for release on July 3, 2012.

Vienna-based art collective Monochrom has released the short film Earthmoving, a prequel to their forthcoming Sierra Zulu feature film (previous post). Earthmoving was filmed on location at the UN headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

Brawler-turned-author Patrick Davis has self-published Fighteytown: An Auto-Fight-Ography, a biographical book of his real-life fistfights. Davis is now adapting the book into a one man show and possibly, a feature film.

LA Weekly’s Public Spectacle blog recently featured Davis and talked about Fightey-town:

As it turns out, he was Mr. Tough Guy. After about 35 street fights — many in L.A. — he was hit with the inspiration to combine his bloody, bare-knuckle hobby with his mostly deferred dream of being a writer. He self-published Fighteytown: An Auto-Fight-Ography, the self-deprecating story of an overprivileged underachiever told through the prism of his often ridiculous fights.

…Instead of a sadist, Davis considers himself an avenger of bullies, a defender of the downtrodden. “One of my most righteous fights was with a guy who’d been terrorizing the homeless in my area of Venice. He was on the ‘scumbag miracle diet’ — Cheez Whiz, Fluffernutter, minidonuts — but he still thought he could take me.”

These wonderful Internet meme movie posters are by UK-based designer Stefan Van Zoggel.

Austin-based cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse has launched The Bottle of Wits, a signature line of wine honoring the 25th anniversary of The Princess Bride. Creative firm Helms Workshop in Austin developed the custom wine packaging system for Alamo Drafthouse which “features a playful interpretation of the characters and quotes from the famous scene from which the wine names are drawn.”

The name of this signature wine program, “The Bottle Of Wits,” is derived from the iconic “battle of wits” scene when Westley first rescues Princess Buttercup from Vizzini and his henchmen. The “Bottle Of Wits” wine line will include two varietals: “Inconceivable Cab” and “As You Wish White”. The “Bottle Of Wits” will be available for purchase at all Alamo Drafthouse locations starting on Tuesday, February 14th and will be available for purchase online soon.

The marketing team behind the upcoming movie, Rampart, have been pasting up controversial posters in several major U.S. cities showing Woody Harrelson’s character, Officer Dave Brown, beating a man with a night stick. The posters simply say “I WORK FOR YOU” with the opening date and are meant to look like street art wheatpaste posters. The film opens February 10, 2012.

/Film quotes Oren Moverman, the director of Rampart:

The poster was Lawrence Inglee’s idea. He’s one of the producers of Rampart and he was searching for an image that would be thought-provoking and challenging, not an indictment of a cop but rather a communal approach to the idea of policing, the idea that maybe when cops do bad things it’s more of a reflection of society and what it is willing to tolerate rather than the fault of one bad apple or an institutional problem. If they work for us, could it be they ARE us?

Officer Dave Brown (Woody Harrelson) is a Vietnam vet and a Rampart Precinct cop, dedicated to doing “the people’s dirty work” and asserting his own code of justice, often blurring the lines between right and wrong to maintain his action-hero state of mind. When he gets caught on tape beating a suspect, he finds himself in a downward spiral as the consequences of his past sins and his refusal to change his ways. Brown internalizes his anguish as his world, complete with two ex-wives who are sisters, two daughters, an aging mentor, investigators, and a series of seemingly random women, starts making less and less sense.

“Digitals” by Chris Crutchfield is a humorous musical short film about communication overload in the digital age. The music for the video is made up of beeps and tones from an orchestra of digital devices.

One day I got an email, an sms, a phone call, a Facebook message and two tweets all within about 5 seconds of one another. This video is a re-manifestation of my brain’s interpretation of that event.

Three remote control people-shaped flying devices were released over New York City recently as a marketing stunt to promote Chronicle, an upcoming film that follows three teenage boys who can fly. The stunt was conceived by viral marketing company, Thinkmodo, who were the folks behind the iPad Head Girl promotion. The film opens in theaters on February 3, 2012.
