Evan Jennings produced I Have Timeline, a parody video that offers an alternative to Facebook’s Timeline profile feature: Real life. It’s a spoof on a Valtrex commercial where people are talking about having genital herpes.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg just rang the opening of the New York Stock Exchange from their Menlo Park, CA headquarters, paving the way for Facebook to go public today. Their initial public offering consistes of 421,233,615 shares of its common stock at $38 per share, which will begin trading at 11am on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol “FB”.

Wedbush Securities’ analyst Michael Pachter recently stated on Bloomberg TV that Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg’s signature hoodie shows investors that “he doesn’t care that much” and is “a mark of immaturity.” TechCrunch has posted that Zuckerberg should upgrade his hoodie to the fancy Gray Executive Pinstripe Hoodie designed by San Francisco-based fashion company Betabrand. It’s made from 100% superfine worsted merino wool, has a paisley tie-cloth liner and will ship by June 22, 2012. Betabrand, you may recall, also designed the Dress Pants Sweatpants.

Facebook announced today that it has reached an agreement to acquire the Instagram photo sharing app for about $1 billion in cash and shares. According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the social network is “committed to building and growing Instagram independently.”

Reconnecting With Facebook on Chuck & Beans

Facebook employees recently painted a 42 foot wide QR code on the roof of their new headquarters in Menlo Park. The QR code arose when CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a company-wide “space hackathon” for the new campus. The QR code directs to fbco.de.

Facebook has just launched Timeline for Facebook pages (regular uses have had it for a while). Currently pages have an option to preview Timeline until March 20, 2012, when Timeline will be implemented on all pages.

Facebook In Real Life on Doghouse Diaries

The Facebook Identity Card by FB Bureau was created by German artist Tobias Leingruber. FB Identity Cards are being distributed at Supermarkt Berlin on March 2.

Next time someone needs to “see your ID” – How about showing a Facebook ID card instead of the documents your government gave you? On the web this is common practice for millions of people already. Therefore – Forget privacy.

Muralist and graffiti artist David Choe has extensively tagged the walls and furniture of the new Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California at the request of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. You might remember in 2007 when we posted images of David’s mural work from the Palo Alto Facebook offices. Upper Playground has photos of Zuckerberg giving Choe a tour of the new campus and creating the giant murals.

Choe even secretly decorated Zuckerberg’s laptop while he was away at lunch:

Facebook users should be sure to RSVP to the December 21, 2012 End of the World event. For readers not versed in eschatology (that’s the study of the end of the world), some people believe the world will end on that date. So, you know, save the date.

Incorporating the new Facebook Timeline profile page, MOO has released a new set of printed Facebook Cards that mirror “the fonts, layout and iconography of the Timeline”. Each pack has 50 double-side full-color cards which includes a customizable personal quote, contact information and 50 different images printed using MOO’s Printfinity technology.

MOO’s product manager George Grinsted talks through how to create Facebook Timeline cards:

Today Facebook officially launched their new profile layout Timeline, which presents the user’s updates, photos, and other activity as a chronology (video). Once enabled, a user has seven days to review and tweak their timeline before it becomes viewable by other users.

Timeline gives you an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect your most important moments. It also lets you share new experiences, like the music you listen to or the miles you run.

At yesterday’s Facebook f8 developers conference in San Francisco, Andy Samberg kicked off the event impersonating Mark Zuckerberg, before the real Mark took the stage for his keynote.

Back in January Jesse Eisenberg, Andy Samberg and Mark Zuckerberg did the opening monologue of Saturday Night Live, all three playing the role of Mark Zuckerberg.

Munich-based “computational artisan”, Mario Klingemann, created the interactive piece Like This based on Facebook’s well-known Like button.

It is not connected to Facebook since for obvious reasons it is not possible to register a “like” for another person without being logged in. Only the button design has been borrowed since it is such a cultural icon already and most people will immediately understand how to use it. Technically it contains an Arduino which takes care for permanently storing the count of button presses (so they do not get lost when the power is detached) and which also controls the display. Also what cannot be seen on the still photo is that you have to press the button for about a second during which a progress bar appears in order for your “Like” to count – so people who do not like it but still want to touch it can do so. The idea was to create a self-referential artwork that shows how many people like it. Apart from that I find it interesting to have an object in a gallery or show that is not only allowed to be touched but actually supposed to be.

It will be shown at the Ultra Social exhibition at the Urban Arts and Media Organization (UAMO) Festival 2011 in Munich from October 27-30, 2011.
