Muralist and graffiti artist David Choe has extensively tagged the walls and furniture of the new Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California at the request of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. You might remember in 2007 when we posted images of David’s mural work from the Palo Alto Facebook offices. Upper Playground has photos of Zuckerberg giving Choe a tour of the new campus and creating the giant murals.

Choe even secretly decorated Zuckerberg’s laptop while he was away at lunch:

Facebook users should be sure to RSVP to the December 21, 2012 End of the World event. For readers not versed in eschatology (that’s the study of the end of the world), some people believe the world will end on that date. So, you know, save the date.

Incorporating the new Facebook Timeline profile page, MOO has released a new set of printed Facebook Cards that mirror “the fonts, layout and iconography of the Timeline”. Each pack has 50 double-side full-color cards which includes a customizable personal quote, contact information and 50 different images printed using MOO’s Printfinity technology.

MOO’s product manager George Grinsted talks through how to create Facebook Timeline cards:

Today Facebook officially launched their new profile layout Timeline, which presents the user’s updates, photos, and other activity as a chronology (video). Once enabled, a user has seven days to review and tweak their timeline before it becomes viewable by other users.

Timeline gives you an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect your most important moments. It also lets you share new experiences, like the music you listen to or the miles you run.

At yesterday’s Facebook f8 developers conference in San Francisco, Andy Samberg kicked off the event impersonating Mark Zuckerberg, before the real Mark took the stage for his keynote.

Back in January Jesse Eisenberg, Andy Samberg and Mark Zuckerberg did the opening monologue of Saturday Night Live, all three playing the role of Mark Zuckerberg.

Munich-based “computational artisan”, Mario Klingemann, created the interactive piece Like This based on Facebook’s well-known Like button.

It is not connected to Facebook since for obvious reasons it is not possible to register a “like” for another person without being logged in. Only the button design has been borrowed since it is such a cultural icon already and most people will immediately understand how to use it. Technically it contains an Arduino which takes care for permanently storing the count of button presses (so they do not get lost when the power is detached) and which also controls the display. Also what cannot be seen on the still photo is that you have to press the button for about a second during which a progress bar appears in order for your “Like” to count – so people who do not like it but still want to touch it can do so. The idea was to create a self-referential artwork that shows how many people like it. Apart from that I find it interesting to have an object in a gallery or show that is not only allowed to be touched but actually supposed to be.

It will be shown at the Ultra Social exhibition at the Urban Arts and Media Organization (UAMO) Festival 2011 in Munich from October 27-30, 2011.

The Man Without A Facebook is a splendid melodramatic parody movie trailer depicting a recluse young man who refuses to join Facebook and instead befriends people in real life. I was enjoying its sublime humor even before I caught on that it’s a faithful recreation of the original movie trailer to The Man Without A Face starring Mel Gibson and now suggest you watch both for the full comedic experience. This genius spoof was written, directed and stars Ben Stumpf and Dan De Lorenzo of New York City.

While watching the climatic scene between the Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin characters in the film The Social Network, I noticed that a photo I shot of Zuckerberg the first time I met him at the Facebook offices in 2007 might have been used as a reference for what Jesse Eisenberg is wearing in the scene (note the Arm & Hammer Baking Soda t-shirt). Although much of the film is fiction, according to Mark one thing they did get right was the clothes that he wore.

Lamebook.com, a parody of Facebook, is being sued by Facebook, so to help raise money for their legal defense they are having a Fight For Your Right to PARODY fundraiser on January 21st at Shangri La in Austin.

Last year ended on a harrowing note for internationally-renowned Austin-based humor blog Lamebook.com. After pursuing a daring legal strategy and filing a defensive suit against social networking leviathan Facebook–who had wrongly threatened to sue the small parody blog for alleged trademark infringement–Lamebook.com was promptly counter-sued by a none-too-pleased Facebook, caught off guard by a plucky small business that – *GASP!* – stuck up for itself under pressure from the multi-billion dollar company!

The legal wrangling has left the founders of the site, graphic designers Jonathan Standefer and Matthew Genitempo, on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars in lawyer’s bills, prompting them to reach out to fans to donate a few bucks to help their cause: defending their first amendment right to make fun of whomever they damn well please. Thing is, for all of its notoriety, Lamebook.com hasn’t made its founders rich, although it has provided a way for a few buddies to work on a fun project together that pays the bills at the end of the month and provides a daily laugh for people all over the world. Yet, fun aside, Lamebook and other humorists, writers, and rascals like them are coming under heavy fire from huge, humorless corporations like Facebook on a regular basis, throwing into question the future of free speech–specifically satire and parody–in New Media.

And so, at 7:00PM this Friday, January 21st at Shangri-La in Austin, Texas, Lamebook is asking fans to come out, donate some moolah to their cause, have a few drinks, and be entertained by a variety of guests including ruthlessly inventive Austin DJ duo Learning Secrets; the all-singing, all-dancing one-man party Neiliyo; some of Lamebook’s best posts read LIVE by members of the New Movement Theater; and delicious vittles served up by the trailer foodies at Pig Vicious. Photographer extraordinaire Annie Ray (annieray.net) will be on hand to chronicle it all. Suggested donation is only $5 which ensures FREE BEER (as long as it lasts!) and the knowledge that attendees are doing their part to ensure that the first amendment applies to everyone, all the way down to the little guys.

I just watched Catfish, an fascinating documentary featuring Nev Schulman who becomes entangled in a real life mystery that unfolds on Facebook that is filmed by his brother Ariel Schulman and best friend Henry Joost.
