Comedy is truth: While some of us scratch our heads and wonder how an environment for jobs like “social media guru” and pay-per-Tweet advertising can exist, others create scathingly brilliant and hilarious videos about an environment that is so very ripe for parody. As of today, no one’s done it better than Markham Nolan and his public service announcement video The Social Media Guru. It’s also a promo for Xtranormal Beta, text-to-video moviemaking software that we hope will be available for Mac users sooner than later. Still, the truth hurts. Telling us he’ll gladly give us a special offer for advice on our Twitter accounts (translation: “I’ll sit on your Facebook and whack you up the Twitter. Financially.”) Nolan peels back the rich tapestry of bullshit and delivers line after line of painfully familiar, nonsensical promises that the douchiest of exploitative social media consultants seem to be offering. We OH, and we weep.

Facebook has just acquired FriendFeed. Here’s the press release from Facebook and FriendFeed’s blog post. You can follow the very active reactions to the announcement on FriendFeed co-founder Bret Taylor’s post on FriendFeed.

Facebook today announced that it has agreed to acquire FriendFeed, the innovative service for sharing online. As part of the agreement, all FriendFeed employees will join Facebook and FriendFeed’s four founders will hold senior roles on Facebook’s engineering and product teams.

Denial-of-Service (Dos) attacks have been launched today against Twitter, Facebook and LiveJournal. Twitter and LiveJournal were taken completely offline and Facebook service has been degraded. Wired Epicenter has more on the DoS attacks.

Somebody needs to call a cyber plumber to come out and fix the tubes.

UPDATE 1: Google was also being targeted in today’s online attacks.

UPDATE 2: Facebook is saying that today’s DoS attacks targeted one specific user.

Facebook recently released a slick new desktop app that runs on Adobe Air with a built-in auto refresh feature. Along with updating your status, can also “Like” and comment on your friends updates right from the app, which will ultimately lead to much more interactivity. Right on, one less service I need to log into for updates.

I currently have the Facebook app sitting next to Tweetie for Mac on my desktop, it’s is like having a 2nd chance seeing the all stuff you miss on Twitter.

Speaking of desktop apps, Seesmic Desktop will soon be including Fackbook updates along with Twitter, adding another great option to the mix.

“Oh Crap. My Parents Joined Facebook.” is a new Tumblr blog for people trying to cope with their parents who have joined Facebook.

So, you finally caved. You’ve accepted a friend request from your Mom, Dad, crazy Aunt Ida, and your college roommate’s newly divorced mother. Well here’s your chance to get back at them for taking away your public privacy.

Of course there are many situations where the parents are on Facebook and not their kids. Personally I’m all for people being more connected. This blog just brings up the point that some people are terrified of the parents being on the same social network.

What do you guys think? Would you want to see your parents on Facebook? I’m all for it.
