Diesel Sweeties pixelated webcomic creator Richard Stevens has launched Diesel Sweeties eBook-Stravaganza 3000, a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter to produce an eBook of his first 3,000 comics. The campaign has been quite successful and Stevens has been adding bonus items for contributors, like the custom Red Robot thumb drive. For a $666 donation, Stevens (a vegetarian) will eat a pound of bacon and for a $10,000 donation, he will give up coffee for one month.

The Baco-Vegetarian: You get the full signed thumb drive package, plus I’ll give up my almost unbroken 2-year stretch of vegetarianism to cook and EAT A POUND OF BACON. Max Landis (son of John Landis) poured himself a drink and then began ranting about the storyline of Superman in The Death and Return of Superman. As he rants, actors reenact the history of Superman in live-action sequences. Look for appearances by Simon Pegg, Ron Howard, Chris Hardwick, Elijah Wood and Mandy Moore in this film produced by Bryan Basham. It’s sort of a drunk history of Superman, even though Landis says he is not drunk in the video.

I’m not drunk in the video, I only get about three cups in. The original rant was 45 minutes long, so of course we had to cut a bunch of stuff out for time, and because it was just too stupid. Like for instance the part where Pa Kent dies of a heart attack and literally GOES TO HEAVEN. AND SEES SUPERMAN.

If I saw this video, I might nerd rage out so hard. But luckily I made it, so I’m pretty happy. Really I’d hope people just are with me, and happy that Guy Gardner and Bloodwynd get to be in a movie.

Here’s the official trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, the rebooted Spider-Man movie directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. The film is scheduled for release on July 3, 2012.

Peter Parker (Garfield) is an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Writer and illustrator Rich Burlew has been writing The Order of the Stick, a comedic webcomic about D&D-style roleplaying games and medieval fantasy, for nearly 10 years. In addition to the online versions, Burlew has been self-publishing hard copy compilations for his fans. The third and largest anthology went out of print in 2010, so Burlew is turning to Kickstarter to raise funds for a second printing. As of this writing, he has raised $393,807, making his fundraiser one of the top 10 highest funded Kickstarter projects to date, and notably, the only book project in the top 10.

DC Entertainment has announced plans to publish Before Watchmen, a “seven inter-connected prequel mini-series” to the popular graphic novel, Watchmen. The announcement, however, has not come without controversy. The New York Times has quoted original Watchmen creator Alan Moore, who is not involved with the project, as saying the new series is “completely shameless.” The mini-series will be released by DC Comics in Summer 2012. All seven cover images are available to view online now.

Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland, a soon-to-be released graphic novel, is both a tribute to Cleveland, Ohio and a unique autobiographical insight on the life of comic book writer Harvey Pekar. The book is illustrated by artist Joseph Remnant and authored by Harvey Pekar (1939-2010), the indie graphic novelist who created the comic series American Splendor. The 128-page book is co-published by ZIP Comics & Top Shelf Productions and due out in March 2012. Pre-orders are currently available.

Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland is sadly one of his last, but happily one of his most definitive graphic novels. It presents key moments and characters from the city’s history, intertwined with Harvey’s own ups and downs, as relayed to us by Our Man and meticulously researched and rendered by artist Joseph Remnant. At once a history of Cleveland and a portrait of Harvey, it’s a tribute to the ordinary greatness of both.
