In Port Charlotte, Florida, a kitten with two faces had been born recently at the home of Nash Hand and his wife Amanda Forsythe. They named their new two-faced male kitten Harvey Dent, after the Gotham City villain of the same name. This tiny black kitten is considered a Janus cat, one born with diprosopus, a rare congenital disorder. Sadly, the latest news is that this adorable little guy passed away at just two days old. Harvey Dent is not the only Janus cat that has been featured here, last year we posted about Frank and Louie, the oldest living Janus cat in the world. In that post, artist and Laughing Squid guest blogger Josh Ellingson had shared a great illustration he made of them.

The non-profit educational sanctuary in Tampa, Florida, Big Cat Rescue, has put together Do Big Cats Purr?, a video that answers questions about how cats of all sizes communicate. They are also behind Do Big Cats Like Catnip? and Do Big Cats Like To Chase Laser Pointers? that we have previously posted.

Los Angeles-based photographer Andy Stolarek was inspired to start his pet portraiture business, Furtographs, after a visit to a pedigreed cat championship in 2003. His unique style really captures the personality of the furry friends he photographs (full gallery of images).

This discovery began his photographic series ‘Grimalkin’ which focused on the niche arena of feline pageantry and competition. As his work progressed, he began to photograph the animals of friends and family, initializing Furtographs. With his unique aesthetic for portraiture, capturing each animal in an unconventional and dramatic manner became Stolarek’s Furtographs focus.

Over at Instructables, Canada-based Tigris Li has fashioned a tank out of cardboard box for kittens (and any small pet, really) and she’s made Kitty Tank Warrior, an adorable action-packed video starring her kitten in the cardboard tank. San Francisco-based science illustrator Jenny Parks has creatively mixed felines with science fiction in Doctor Mew, her 2010 illustrated series of Doctor Who-inspired cats. Doctor Mew posters and buttons are available for purchase.

TurnStyle News recently interviewed Parks about Doctor Mew:

Doctor Mew was born years before the new Doctor Who series began in 2006. I was a fan of (perhaps obsessed with) the old show when I was a teenager, and I did a lot of Doctor Who fan art at the time. The inspiration to make them all cats wasn’t something new to me, however. When I was much younger, I started drawing my favorite characters as cats for the simple reason that I didn’t draw people too well yet, so it was natural to me to turn them into cats instead. The logical progression from there once I became a Whovian was to do the same. I did find though, that there was something inherit about the connection between Doctor Who fans and cat lovers, and so I kept improving on the Doctor Mew image until it became the one it is today.

The Cat Fanciers’ Association, the world’s largest registry of pedigreed cats, has a real competition called Feline Agility where cats go through ten obstacles successfully. Take a look at the video, Feline Agility Training, that stars an adorable kitten-in-training named Jumpin Jack Flash. Feline agility competitions are rapidly growing in popularity at cat shows around the world. CFA started planning agility competitions late in 2004 and numerous clubs have jumped at the chance to set up an agility course at their cat shows. Exhibitors are standing in line to put their cat through its paces. And spectators are just loving it!

Oskar, the adorable little blind kitten who attacked air blowing out of a hair dryer and then played with his first toys is back in the video, Oskar the Blind Kitten and the Christmas Tree. In it, he adorably wrestles with a small fake Christmas tree and then gets tangled up in some silvery decorations.

Oskar was more than happy to “help” Bethany with getting the Christmas tree ready. He was not harmed or hurt in any way in any of the clips, and is as healthy and happy as any loved cat..
