Apple iPad Will Be Available in The US on April 3rd

Apple has just announced that the iPad will be available on the US on April 3rd.

Apple today announced that its magical and revolutionary iPad will be available in the US on Saturday, April 3, for Wi-Fi models and in late April for Wi-Fi + 3G models. In addition, all models of iPad will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in late April.

Beginning a week from today, on March 12, US customers can pre-order both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models from Apple’s online store or reserve a Wi-Fi model to pick up on Saturday, April 3, at an Apple retail store.

I don’t know if it’s my growing cynicism from continued exposure to Silicon Valley, or if I’m just gadgeted out, but I wasn’t at all excited waking up this morning to hear what Apple was releasing at their event today. When I caught up with the rest of the Internet and read “iPad,” I paused for a moment, then asked someone, “Am I the only one who hears that and thinks of Maxi Pads?”

Apple Announces New Tablet Computer, The iPad

At today’s special event in San Francisco Steve Jobs announced the highly anticipated Apple tablet computer, the iPad. It has a 9.7″ display, is 0.5″ thick, weighs 1.5 pounds and has a 10 hour battery life. It comes with WiFi, Bluetooth, an accelerometer, compass and can run existing apps from Apple’s App Store without any additional modification.

Pricing for the iPad starts at $499 for 16GB and it will be shipping by March. An unlimited data plan is being offer via AT&T at $29.99/month with no contract or $14.99/month for up to 250MB. A keyboard dock is also available.

FDA Holds Up Delivery of iMac Thinking It Is An Actual Apple

PC Guy John Hodgman Using A Mac on Diggnation

Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht recently paid a visit to the Brooklyn home of famous minor television personality John Hodgman to film episode #231 of Diggnation.

In the video Hodgman, who plays the “The PC” in Apple’s “Get A Mac” ads, is seen using a Mac, explaining that he’s been a Mac user since 1984.

Rachel Sklar recently interviewed John Hodgman on Mediaite where he itemizes all the various Macs he’s used over the years.

Yesterday I stopped by the new Apple retail store in New York City’s Upper West Side. The building features a beautiful glass facade and glass spiral staircase that descends to the lower level.

HyperMac, A Portable External Battery That Powers & Charges MacBooks & iPhones

Like many people, I often find myself in situations where my MacBook Pro battery runs out much sooner than I would like. The newer MacBook Pro’s have a built-in battery with extended life, but I don’t have any immediate plans to upgrade. That’s were HyperMac comes in. It’s an external battery in a aluminum enclosure that can both power and charge a MacBook as well as a iPhone (via USB). It comes in four sizes, the larger the HyperMac, the longer the batter life. It also automatically determines which model you are using and charges at the appropriate voltage.

Available in 4 different capacities of 60Wh, 100Wh, 150Wh and 222Wh (compared to MacBook Air 37Wh only internal battery), the external battery is capable of powering the MacBook for up to 32 hours – allowing for long haul flights, extended outdoor shoots, expeditions to remote locations or any situation where electricity is simply not an option. When on the road, there is also the HyperMac car charger which powers and recharges the MacBook directly from the automobile cigarette slot.

I ordered a MBP-100 which I’ll be putting to the test the next few months as I travel.
