The quirky music video for the song Zeroes & Ones by California-based indie rock band Baby Seal Club is full of chickens pecking at beet-filled human figures in a tiny faux Apple store. The song (which I think is pretty great) is from their upcoming album titled Default World, due out in summer 2012. The video was conceived & produced by Fudo, Wizzbang, Olava & Uncle Stabby.

Wizz Bang, the band’s Chief-Chicken Wrangler, described the video’s shoot in detail at the Baby Seal Club website:

I have raised many birds from egg to adulthood and one thing I’ve discovered along the way is that the baby chicks really enjoy eating the shredded vegetable fiber that shoots out the back of our big juicer. Being a somewhat macabre chicken-wrangler and verified horror flick fan, I noticed that the beet fibers looked a lot like viscera and guts – the amazing reddish color, the stringy consistency, and the hard-to-identify-on-film quality of the stuff thus sparked an idea. I began feeding them the stuff everyday as a “treat,” so they would become good and hungry for it when it was time to be on the set.

Kinetic Creatures are cardboard walking animal sculptures by Alyssa Hamel & Lucas Ainsworth. The sculptures are made of cut cardboard parts that fit together with tabs and slots. They walk via a hand crank or on their own with an optional electric gear kit. Kinetic Creatures are intended to be learning projects for classroom or home use. Hamel and Ainsworth are raising funds on Kickstarter to finance production of the sculptures.

The marine biologists at Pleated-Jeans created a series of “unscientific diagrams” of various aquatic lifeforms.

The Animal Pocket Knife resembles a Swiss Army knife, but rather than concealing folding knives and tools, it conceals interchangeable animal parts. Animal Pocket Knife is a design concept by David Suhami.

The maladjusted pair inhabit a universe in which Toast’s unusual ideas about reality reign supreme.

An experimental bird-like robot lands on a human hand in this impressive demonstration. The robot is being developed by researchers Aditya Paranjape, Joseph Kim, and Soon-Jo Chung, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Aerospace Robotics and Control Lab.

Houston architect Paul Kweton has designed the Rocking-2-Gether Chair, a clever rocking chair built for both people and animals.

The rocking-2-gether chair (patent pending) is a hybrid between a rocking chair and dog/cat house. This project initially started in 2011, generating digital 3D models. Several 1:8 scale 3D printed models followed, refining the balance and rocking behaviour of the chair. The prototype 2.1 chair is made out of CNC milled birch plywood. The density and amount of the CNC milled “ribs” can be controlled with differently sized wooden spacers (see photographs), ergo controlling the visual connection between the person and his/her pet. The design process and final full scale prototype of the rocking-2-gether chair showcases the successful combination of digital modeling and digital fabrication.
