The ad is part of Chevy&#8217;s <a href="http://letsdothis.com/">Let&#8217;s Do This</a> challenge.</p>
<blockquote><p>OK Go set up over 1000 instruments over two miles of desert outside Los Angeles. A Chevy Sonic was outfitted with retractable pneumatic arms designed to play the instruments, and the band recorded this version of Needing/Getting, singing as they played the instrument array with the car. The video took 4 months of preparation and 4 days of shooting and recording. There are no ringers or stand-ins; Damian took stunt driving lessons. Each piano had the lowest octaves tuned to the same note so that they&#8217;d play the right note no matter where they were struck.</p></blockquote>

The <a href="http://youtu.be/9Op9owJiujY">teaser trailer</a> has been released and so far we know that it involves one car (a Chevy Sonic, of course), 288 guitars stuck to a fence, 55 stranded pianos, 1157 homemade instruments and a singer that is a &#8220;professionally trained driver&#8221;. The full video will premiere on February 5, 2012 during the Super Bowl.</p>

Owner of the Old Milwaukee brand, <a href="http://www.pabstbrewingco.com/">Pabst Brewing Company</a>, was approached by the comedian in September 2011 to do the unscripted commercial spots for free simply because he loves the brand. Bryan Crowley, Pabst Brewing’s chief marketing officer, wrote the <em><a href="http://qctimes.com">Quad-City Times</a></em> an email explaining <a href="http://qctimes.com/entertainment/comic-picks-davenport-for-beer-ads/article_7a132724-15e3-11e1-924f-001cc4c002e0.html?oCampaign=hottopics#ixzz1jkD3eoQv">Ferrell&#8217;s participation in the commercials</a>, “Will approached Old Milwaukee because he’s a big fan of the beer and thought it would be fun to make the commercials, and we couldn’t be more excited that he did”.</p>
<p>The commercials have only aired in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quad_Cities">Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois</a> and have been posted online from folks recording their actual televisions.</p>

<p><strong>UPDATE 1:</strong> The dog in the AT-AT costume at the end of the video appears to be <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bones-Mello-the-AT-AT-Dog/225465154180747">Bones Mello</a>, the popular <a href="http://laughingsquid.com/search/at-at+bones">AT-AT dog that we have posted about previously</a>. It turns out that Bones&#8217; owner <a href="http://www.laika.com/person.php?id=147">Katie Mello</a> was never contacted by VW, they instead appropriated the idea for the costume without giving Katie any compensation or attribution.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.daveprosser.co.uk">David Prosser</a> of <a href="http://www.studioaka.co.uk">Studio AKA</a> directed and designed <em><a href="http://vimeo.com/31777389">Good Night</a></em>, an imaginative animated advertising spot commissioned by <a href="http://www.mccann.no/">McCann Oslo</a> for Norwegian oil and gas company, <a href="http://www.statoil.com">Statoil</a>. The piece, done in both live action and animation, has a young girl asking her father what he does for a living which then goes into a fun undersea romp as he explains he is a &#8220;treasure hunter&#8221; for a &#8220;treasure&#8221; (oil) that the whole world needs.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.skwigly.co.uk">Skwigly</a> recently <a href="http://www.skwigly.co.uk/david-prosser-statoil/">interviewed Prosser</a> about this piece. Here he describes his inspiration for the style and content of <em>Good Night</em>:</p>
<blockquote><p>I was keen to include cross over in the transition from live-action to animation so there are objects from the girl’s room which are reflected in the animation and vice a versa (if you look closely you can see the troll and the octopus!). The world had to be playful enough to reflect the young girl’s imagination and not too dark, yet be reflective of the apparent dangers of the ocean and the obstacles that have to be overcome in this intrepid line of work. They’re is also layers of 2D animated objects and loose 2D linework throughout the animated world, an element that hopefully harks back the that of a childlike drawing, slight naive imperfections that give a depth to the spot and also an element of my signature.</p></blockquote>
