Cafe on the Greek Island of Lesbos Generously Offers Shelter to Stray Dogs During Cold Winter Nights

This past week, Eustratios Papanis, an assistant professor of sociology at the University of the Aegean, posted a wonderfully heartwarming photo of dogs peacefully relaxing on the soft bench seats of the Hot Spot Cafe in Lesbos, Greece. The compassionate owners of cafe generously opened their doors after-hours in order to provide the growing number of stray dogs in the area with a warm, dry place to stay during the cold winter nights.

This picture was taken at a coffee shop in the island of Lesvos, North Aegean Sea, Greece. The country has strict laws about animal protection, but culture and knowledge are the key factors for changing long standing indifference, negligence or maltreatment. More than 700.000 refugees from Syria and other Middle East countries have entered Europe from this island this year and solidarity towards humans and animals was remarkable.

This act of kindness is constantly repeated throughout Greece, a generous country who seeks to care for the stray animals in their community and providing a home for the refugees of the world.
