British Man Keeps Bottle Garden Alive for 53 Years and Counting

53 Year Old Bottle Garden

Back in 1960, British engineer David Latimer sealed a spiderworts plant in a 10 gallon glass bottle out of “idle curiosity.” He opened the bottle garden once in 1972 to water it, and for the past 41 years, the garden has thrived in a sealed, self-contained environment (the only input is sunlight). For more on Latimer’s garden, as well as info on how to make your own, see this Daily Mail article.
