The police simply said they need a permit to block off the street and have an event. Just like every other group that wants to use public streets and have an event. It's called taking responsibility. I ran a full size 100 mile bike ride for 15 years. Every year I went to each town the ride went though, got the needed permits and sent thank you notes to each police and emergency squad after the event was complete. Why does this group think it's so much better than the rest of us. That they can just block off a public street and do what ever they want. If they spent as much time getting a permit as they do whining about the need to get a permit the event would be over. I know getting a permit makes the event less 'spur of the moment' and more planned, but some times when you get big enough, that is what has to happen. My my ride started we had 30 people. When we reached 100 participants I had to get serious and start planning the event. It happens. No one is saying it’s a crime.
