Astonishing Images of Sand Grains Magnified Under High Powered Light Microscope

When Dr. Gary Goldman combined his skills as a photographer with his education in science, he came up with these astonishing images of grains of sand magnified under a high-powered light microscope.

When Dr. Gary Greenberg turned his microscope on beach sand, gemlike minerals, colorful coral fragments, and delicate microscopic shells emerged, revealing that sand comprises much more than little brown rocks. You will never look at a beach the same way again.

Dr. Goldberg has published a collection of his photos in the book A Grain of Sand-Nature’s Secret Wonder, which is available for purchase. Metallic and aluminum prints are also available.
