In his Incense Series, Korean artist Jihyun Park creates ethereal illustrations on rice paper by burning tiny holes into the paper with incense sticks. The contrast between the off-white of the rice paper and the browns of the burned holes makes for soft, low-contrast images–the technique is ideal for the peaceful landscapes and other natural subjects that Park depicts in the series.
