For nearly every winter since 2005, Art Shanty Projects has been bringing a whimsical community of art shanties to a frozen lake in Minnesota (in recent years, White Bear Lake near Minneapolis–Saint Paul.) The project’s so-called On-Ice Program features 25 shanties that take all manner of sculptural forms. In addition to being works of art in their own right, the shanties house community-oriented activities like knitting and karaoke. The On-Ice Program is on hiatus this winter but is due back in winter 2016. Art Shanty Projects is currently accepting donations.
