Architectural Forms Created With Charcoal Pieces Suspended by Nylon Thread

Suspended charcoal sculptures by Seon Ghi Bahk

Korean artist Seon Ghi Bahk has created a series of sculptural installations in which architectural forms are rendered in arrays of charcoal pieces suspended from nylon thread. The ghostly installations are Bahk’s commentary on the relationship between civilization and nature:

Seon Ghi Bahk uses charcoal, a natural substance that is the ghost of trees that once stood around us, to replicate architectural forms that human beings design to shelter us in the present day. It is this marriage of the human-made civilized culture that is architecture with nature that the artist is asking us to contemplate, and more precisely, what that relationship says about us as a species.

The installation is on display at the exhibition “Fiction of the Fabricated Image” at the Zadok Gallery in Miami through August 25th, 2014.
