OS X 10.5 Leopard

Today at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, Steve Jobs’ keynote speech previewed Leopard, the 10.5 version of their OS X operating system which will be coming out in Spring 2007. One of the new features announced was Spaces, which allows you to have up to 4 multiple desktops. This is a feature that has been around a while with Linux desktops and it’s great to see it finally make its way into OS X. Om Malik has a really great wrap-up on the Leopard preview.

Other annoucements at WWDC today indluded the new Mac Pro desktop and Xserve 1U rackmount server, both powered by the new dual-core Intel Xeon “Woodcrest” processor.

“Configure your Spaces by visiting the Dashboard and Exposé preference pane in System Preferences. Add rows and columns until you have all the desktop real estate you need. Arrange your Spaces as you see fit, then assign what function keys you want to control them.”
