An Economic Analysis of Homer Simpson and His More Than 100 Jobs

Vox writer Zachary Crockett did an economic analysis of Homer Simpson and the more than 100 jobs the character has held over the run of The Simpsons. Crockett’s analysis focuses primarily on how Homer’s income compared to that of the actual American middle class in the years the show has been on the air.

Crockett’s piece also includes a chart of 100 jobs held by Homer and their real-world average annual salaries that range from $980,000 per year as the CEO of a power plant to $17,900 per year as a drive-thru employee.

Over the show’s 596-episode run, Homer has had at least 191 jobs. They’ve ranged from executive positions to service jobs, and have dotted the entire economic spectrum, from ultra-rich to the poverty line.
