aMAZEme, A Walkable Labyrinth of 250,000 Books

aMAZEme book labyrinth

aMAZEme is an interactive installation of 250,000 secondhand books stacked to form a giant labyrinth (see a construction time-lapse). The shape of the labyrinth is inspired by the fingerprint of Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. The installation was created by Brazilian artists Marcos Saboya and Gualter Pupo, installed with the assistance of over 200 volunteers, for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. It is open to the public at the Southbank Centre in London through August 26. Southbank Centre recently spoke with Gualter Pupo about the installation (podcast link).
