A Lesson In How To Teach A Mouse To Walk Backwards

Marina from MouseAgility gives a step-by-step lesson in teaching a mouse to walk backwards.

First I let my mouse gnaw on a treat between my fingers and place the other hand’s fingers at the sides of its neck. When it retreats, I give it the treat behind my fingers…then my fingers gradually move backwards. Soon your mouse will start to offer the behavior without the help of your hand. Reward it, even if it’s just a few steps.

We’ve previously written about Marina and her mice. Sadly, however, Brösel, the mouse with the baby carriage recently passed away. RIP Brösel.
