A Group of Stray Dogs Unexpectedly Show Up to Pay Their Respects at the Funeral of the Kind Woman Who Gave Them Food

Stray Dogs at Funeral

A group of stray dogs in Mérida, Yucatán unexpectedly showed up at the funeral of animal lover Magarita Suarez in order to pay their respects to the kind woman who cared for them when no one else would. While dogs aren’t usually welcome at the funeral home, the proprietor made an exception in this particular case. Suarez’s daughter Patricia Urrutia told Misiones Online that the dogs rose when Patricia’s body was brought into the room and made a procession behind the hearse that took her to be cremated.

(translated) Upon arriving at the funeral home, the dogs sat in a room while they were preparing the body for the funeral and began playing with presents there. Then came the body of my mother and the dogs rose in concert. Then they went back to sleeping and remained there until the morning when everyone left. …Twenty minutes before they took her to be cremated, the dogs left as they arrived, all together.
