A Fascinating Demonstration of How Designs are Added Into Handmade Victorian Candies

Artisan candy maker Gregory Cohen, owner of Lofty Pursuits in Tallahassee, Florida demonstrated the fascinating process for creating Victorian apple image candies while telling stories about the symbolism of apples throughout history.

As I add the food coloring to build up the color palette that will make up this candy I think about Apples as its used as word in English. She’s the apple of my eye or the City – the Big Apple. Apple seems to be used in these connotations as a symbol for perfection. I’ve always loved the idiom it’s as American as apple pie you know apples come from Asia, pies come from Egypt, apple pie itself comes from England and but apple pie ala mode that’s an American invention all the way.
